Most festivals in Nepal include family gatherings, decorations, dancing and music, and a variety of special foods are consumed during festivals and on special occasions.
4. JatrasJatra is the type of Newari festival that involves street festivals, chariot festival in any public procession and carnivals. Some of the major jatras are Indra Jatra, Gai Jatra, Bisket Jatra, Bhoto Jatra etc.
During these jatras, there are huge crowd in the streets waiting for the Chariots. The chariots are made up of wood, a tree and huge wheels. They are pulled by the men and are taken to different places for a tour around the city.
The environment is loud and blasts with enthusiasm as the Newars come out in their traditional Newari dresses and play Newari instruments. It is a festival where everyone comes together to celebrate and enjoy.

When it comes to food and cuisines, Nepal has a lot to offer you. The most popular ones are Newari cuisine and Thakali Khana set. The Newari cuisine includes a feast of beaten rice, curry of potato and bamboo shoots(aalu taama), chatamari, curry of lentils, minced buffalo meat(haku choila which is an absolute must to try), bhutan, green vegetables and pickle. If you want to get some drinks, you can also try ‘Chhyang’ that is homemade by the locals. Whereas, the Thakali khana set includes plain rice, curry of lentils, chicken/mutton, green vegetables, Pappad, pickle etc.
Besides the ones mentioned above, the food culture of Nepal is expanding. You can also taste some unique hits that the country is seeing. For example, Laphing from Bouddha, Mo:Mo etc are a must-try. And so is Titaura Ice-Cream at Shree Gha, Juju Dhau, which means the King Curd at Bhaktapur.
