Local Carpenter Turned Into A Friend

So, this is a frustrating story of last summer when we decided to sell our home in Irvington NJ. Basically, this is an event when a carpenter contractor actually saved our face and now, he is my best friend. So, you can call it either a story in which a carpenter became a savior or a story of becoming friends with my carpenter.

When we were looking for customers through our real estate agent, the main problem was that the condition of our kitchen was very bad. Every customer who came to our house complained about this. I did not have a plan to repair or renovate the kitchen because I was already short of money.

But then my real estate agent advised me that the kitchen should be remodeled at any cost because it was the sole reason why our deals were not getting locked. He told me that the house would never be sold without this step and if it gets sold, I would not be able to get the right amount of money because of the condition of the kitchen.

The agent inspected the whole house and he was sure that the only problem was the kitchen. Hence, I had to get it remodeled. So, I arranged a little money and hired a kitchen remodeling contractor.

They were very confident about their work and they promised that they would do all the work in just two weeks. They even showed me some model pictures that they would make the kitchen look exactly like that.

I was happy because at least they were not that expensive. I told them that I have to show it a customer who will be coming in three weeks from abroad and I have a great chance to get my deal locked with him so I cannot afford any issue in the quality of work or mismanagement in time. They promised that they would not let that happen.

I trusted them and the work began. My suspicion started when a week passed and they were unable to complete even the flooring. I was quite worried so I asked them about the issue but they were quite reluctant that it is their job and they can do it.

But they were wrong. Because one day before the deadline, the kitchen cabinets were not even built yet. I got really angry and inquired about the issue. And to my shock, they said that it was not in their job description that they had to make cabinets too, and they left. That was very eccentric and dodging.

Anyways, I ran to the market to find a local contractor. Many refused because the time was too short. However, I explained my situation to Eric and he literally listened to me empathetically. I understood the urgency so he postponed his other not-so-urgent works and came to my house. He and his team did all the work in two days and did not even charge me more than usual. I got really touched by his empathetic nature and since then, we have become friends because as we all know, a friend in need is a friend indeed.

And indeed, Eric helped me at that time by being more than a professional carpenter.
