Group Discussions are getting popular day by day. Corporate companies nowadays are in favor of organizing group discussions and include them as part of the recruitment process. The main motive of group discussion is to evaluate the employee's communication skills as well as thinking ability. Before you search about the group discussion topic to prepare in 2020, first have a look at how important a group discussion is.

Things that a recruiter evaluates in a group discussion:

There are plenty of things that a recruiter wants to know about you before he/she can decide upon an interview. The aim is to select the right and deserving candidates from the list of all the applicants.

  • To see how you communicate with your peers.

  • How well can you interact with the people around you?

  • The ability of how patient you are in listening.

  • How well can you put forward your views and thoughts?

  • The skills to analyze.

  • The attitude and confidence with which you can deal with situations.

  • Decision-making skills of an individual.

  • Public speaking skills.

  • Command over the language.

How to prepare for a Group Discussion:
  • Gather as much information as you can. Be aware of the general affairs, historical topics, and about the ongoing in the market.

  • You can never anticipate the topic of the group discussion. So listen carefully when the topic is described.

  • If in any case the topic is not clear to you, ask questions and understand it properly. Without clarity of topics, you will not be able to perform well in the group discussion.

  • As you try to think about the points you can discuss related to the topic, make sure to stick to a few points. The more points you will evaluate to discuss, the more confused you can be.

  • Remember that what matters is not how long you communicate but what you communicate. Whatever points you keep forward should be substantial. This is an essential part of communication skills.

  • Make sure you are confident before you sit for the group discussion. You can stand in front of the mirror and then practice speaking to gain more confidence.

  • Try to take the initiative if you think you can. If you do so, you will have the freedom to form the structure of the discussion. It will give the recruiter an impression that you have the ability to initiate actions.

  • Make sure that whatever points you choose to talk about exhibit your knowledge of the topic. Cite relevant examples wherever you think you can.

  • Do not try to be forceful while discussing the topic. You can give a really bad impression of yourself if you become aggressive in the group discussion. Give space to every member of the group.

  • Try to come up with a conclusion by the end of the discussion. Hear and analyze all the points put forward by the other members and draw a relevant conclusion to the topic.

  • Avoid superficial talk and be to the point.

  • Read as much as you can before your final big day of the group discussion.

Remember that the group discussion is a mass elimination procedure. You need to prove yourself better deserving than the other employees. The more clear and specific you are, the better your chances of making your mark.
