Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla Create strong hold in Fashion Industry

Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla are one of the most renowned designers in the fashion industry. They are well known for infusing contemporary styles with traditional clothing. Sandeep Khosla studied at a leather institute in Chennai and then moved to Delhi where he opened his first boutique ‘Limelight’. Later on he moved to Mumbai and started working with a film costume designer Xerxes Bhathena, who was also assisted by Abu Jani. Abu Jani started freelancing and then he worked in an export house.

In 1986 both decided to work together and opened their first boutique ‘Mata Hari’ in Mumbai. Their first collection was in natural fabrics. Later on their work was featured in a well known magazine. This gave them recognition, which led to their first celebrity client Dimple Kapadia. They also worked for Jaya Bachchan and Parmeshwar Godrej. In the same year they were offered to design Raymond Fabrics campaign. And then they designed onscreen costumes for Madhuri Dixit, Sonu Walia and Amrita Singh. In 1991 they launched their ‘Chikan Line’ and also published their first book named ‘Classic Chikan’. They also launched their first furniture line at Bombay’s Bajaj Gallery in 1993. In 2005 they participated in Lakme Fashion Week and were also the creative directors of Lakme Fashion House. Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla both hosted a TV show named ‘The First Ladies with Abu Sandeep’ in 2008 where they interviewed famous personalities like Jaya Bachchan, Usha Mittal, Sussane Khan, Maharani Padmini Devi and Nita Ambani. The duo has also designed costumes for the film ‘Veere Di Wedding’ (2018) featuring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar and Shikha Talsania. Sonam Kapoor also wore their outfit for her sangeet ceremony. Akash Ambani and Shloka Mehta wore outfits designed by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla for their engagement. In the year 2012 they completed 25 years in the fashion industry.
