When you type any URL on the address bar, and if your the request has not reached to the server, then the errors appear considered 404 error; the first thing you should find: is the content ever available on the Website?

If it was, and you have modified your URL structure, then you will require to redirection to make the user and search engine navigate to the accurate page. If the page URL you typed has never existed on the Website, so you should not waste your time, because redirecting every 404 errors is not the solution, even it will slow down your SEO results.

Troubleshooting of WordPress Error 404

However, this Error comes often when the said page is not available on the server, but WordPress Error 404 is also common. So there is no stress of taking a headache for that. WordPress is the finest content management system and it has its inner rephrase the arrangement, which is a segment of the permalink structure. It means that the user can make permalink as per their choice by putting desired words in slug section

It is important to find the cause of WordPress Error 404, and it can be because of WordPress itself or Webserver

Fixing the WordPress Error in Web Server

Check Static File

If your static file on your Website exists, then make sure it is also visiting the server itself. Use SFTP to check the presence of file.

For an example that the URL http://mysite.com/wp-content/uploads/picture.jpg is creating the Error, then you should:

Go to your Site server via FTP and connect with server

Redirect to the location of the file

Authenticate the file existence

If the file doesn’t appear, you have detected the source of 404 errors

But somehow, if the file is available, but still the URL in the browser is showing WordPress Error 404, then you should find again whether the issue is related to WordPress site or it is a server-based issue.

You need to create:

Two files in FTP at the root location [/var/www/my site.com/] for inspection

1st Step: generate HTML file and name it test.html and it should have the content "It worked" in it

After uploading the file, you need test by testing HTTP:// mysite.com /test.html

If you find that "It worked,", then the server is dealing out-static file accurately, it will indicate that this is not the server error. The Error might be in WordPress itself

2nd Step: generate a PHP file with a name test.php which must have below written syntax

When uploading of PHP file is completed, then go to https:// mysite.com /test.php. If it indicates It works in PHP," then the PHP is running smoothly, then again it might be an issue in your WordPress

Not only 404 errors but sometimes sites can catch Error Establishing a Database Connection in WordPress and other errors simultaneously.

Troubleshooting 404 Error in WordPress

WordPress has its rewrite mechanism which handles permalinks or "pretty URLs."
