Posted: Mar 07, 2020
Kumbh Mela or Kumbha Mela is arguably one of the world’s largest gathering of humanity that is celebrated every 12 years. The observance site rotates amongst four major pilgrimage site - at Haridwar on the Ganges River, at Nashik on the Godavari, at Ujjain on the Shipra, and at Prayag (presently called Prayagraj).
All these places are along the banks of the sacred rivers or their confluence. Interestingly, each of these sites is based on a manifested set of astrological positions of the celestial bodies and when is their holiest time of occurring.
Attracting millions of pilgrims, Kumbh Mela 2021 is all set to host the gigantic cultural and religious experiences of people across the globe. To book your tickets early, check out the Kumbh Mela Tour Packages from the above link.

How it all started?
If you ascribe to the mythology, Kumbh Mela’s origin goes back to the 8th-century philosopher Shankara, who arranged routine gatherings for academic and philosophical debates and discussions. The Puranas say when the gods and demons fought over a pot of elixir of immortality (Kumbha of amrita), drops of the elixir fell on four earthly sites (which are now the Kumbh Mela spots).
The rivers here turned in primordial nectar giving pilgrims a chance to bathe in the stream of auspiciousness. The Hindi name for Aquarius is Kumbh, which is the zodiac sign in which Jupiter resides during the Haridwar Mela.
