Privacy Concerns: How to Secure Yourself from Unsafe Internet World
Posted: Feb 27, 2020
In 2020 or in the upcoming years, which issue we are facing most while browsing the internet? The answer is obviously the privacy issues. Information is the most important thing to know the user’s behavior and design products based on the user behavior that suits your specific needs. And often while browsing the internet by any browsers like Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, we are sharing valuable information for market research. Not only market research, these information are used to design new products, know user-specific information, know user's interest and sometimes for hacking websites and so on.
The questions are, how to overcome these security issues as you are thinking not to get exposed?
The most common strategy is to use a Virtual Private Network or VPN.
How VPN Keeps You Safe?
When you connect to the internet using a browser you share some information with the browser. For example, you are sharing an IP address, that is sent to the server and kept stored.
While you use a VPN, there are intermediary server/servers whose IP address is different from yours. The IP address is completely changed and the website server knows the proxy IP. Several encryption and decryption of data are done on the process of making your private information secure. For example, you are using the internet from the USA, but when you use a VPN, you can browse the internet from Japan or some other countries. As encryption/decryption will be done, you are safe in terms of transaction or credit card details too.
VPN for Chrome
There are several ways by which you can use VPN for Chrome. Some are free and some are paid.
Options:
- 1. VPN Chrome Extensions
- 2. VPN apps for Operating System (OS)
- 3. Manual configuration for VPN
VPN Chrome Extensions
When you use VPN Chrome Extensions, your browsing history for using Chrome becomes encrypted and your information is hidden. But keep in mind, nothing is free in this world. So, when you are using the free options, actually you are selling your information to the VPN server and in most cases, you can not control geotags. In paid VPN’s there may have options to use any specific geolocation and control over your information.
VPN Apps for Operating System
There are many apps that can be installed on a computer, smartphone or tab that can support you with the VPN service for free or paid. But, keep in mind, you are still sharing valuable information with the VPN server itself. The best option to go for paid client apps that provides full protection. If you use operating system level VPN apps, all of your internet usage data will be safe, not only what you are doing on Chrome. Better, right?
Manual Settings for VPN
There are VPN services which need to be manually configured if you want to use them. Sometimes, the configuration process could take a good amount of time and may not work automatically. For the beginners or intermediate users, I do not suggest to configure VPN manually.
Information specifically private information should be kept safe and VPN can help in this regard in many ways. Choosing the right VPN may be the most important and sophisticated task for you to do while you are concerned about your user information or private information.
