Feeling Lonely? Move Past It To Lead a Fulfilling Life
Posted: Mar 30, 2020
Yes, we all feel lonely from time to time, but did you know that feeling lonely is a choice. You have the power to choose not to live a life of loneliness. Instead, learn to move past it to lead a fulfilling life. Even though it is easier said than done, it is not impossible. You do not need to go through life feeling lonely when you can take steps to get yourself out of the cave you have built for yourself.
Take down the walls that you have erected around you and start living a fulfilling life. For people with depression, taking steps to lead a fulfilling life may be ten times harder, but keep reading to learn how you can step out of the shadows and into the light.
Use the following tips to break out of the chains of loneliness:
1. Do Not Stress About Small and Big ThingsIf you get easily stressed about the small and big things, avoid doing so. Every day, you will be faced with a challenge, which you need to overcome instead of worrying about it. Often, the challenges a person faces are out of their control. If a situation is out of your control, take a deep breath and come up with a plan to tackle it instead of closing yourself and running away from it.
2. Get Out of Your Comfort ZoneOnce you start following a routine, you get comfortable…too comfortable that getting out of it may worry you. You would rather stay in your little bubble than do something different. Leading a fulfilling life requires a little push from your end. It is perfectly fine to feel uncomfortable when you’re trying something new for the first time. But once you start doing it, you will automatically become comfortable with it.
3. Focus on the PositivesFocusing on only the negatives of a situation can cause you to become a toxic and pessimistic individual. By focusing on the positives of a situation, you can lead a happier and more fulfilling life. Never look down upon yourself and if something does not go as planned, it is okay. You learn from your failures, so pick yourself up and start all over again.
4. Look Around You and Be ThankfulMost people do not realize that others have it worse than them. If more people started to realize that, they would be less sad and more grateful for all the things they have access to compared to others. When a negative thought creeps in such as "Why does it always happen to me?", think of others who are in a far worse situation than yours to be grateful with what you have. Moreover, say thank you to others, such as family, friends, coworkers, and even strangers. If someone looks good, tell them. Making others smile will make you smile. Try it; it really works.
5. Put an End to OverthinkingOverthinking a situation several times is the fastest way to bring yourself down. If you have the habit of overanalyzing every tiny situation, stop it because you are only making your life more difficult and complicating the situation even more. Practice some breathing techniques or write it all in a diary to let it all out and then stop thinking about it.
6. Conquer Your FearsTo lead a fulfilling life and be the best version of yourself, you need to conquer your fears. Fear is a mindset, one that you can change. Instead of fearing something you failed at, confront it, learn from it, and try again. Failure can be in the form of a relationship, schoolwork and work. Do not let your fears pull you down from following your dreams.
7. Get CounselingIf you have depression or any issues preventing you from leading a fulfilling life, you can seek counseling to help you through them. Often, talking to a third-party — someone who does not know you — can help you get some clarity on the direction your life is headed and help you turn it around. Again, going to a counselor requires motivation. Motivate yourself to change your life for the better.
It is time you take charge of your life and stop feeling like you are alone because you are not. You are your biggest strength when it comes to living a fulfilling life. Use your strength to travel on a path that leads to a more fulfilling and meaningful life for yourself.
