Pin Bhaba Pass Trek

Day 1Arrive at Kafnu (7,465) from Shimla (7,878 m)

The journey from Shimla to Kafnu is long but beautiful. You will also get to see the bewitching glimpse of Bhaba river.

Kafnu is a simple small village located in the huge folds of Kinnaur. Take a rest and comfort yourself at Kafnu for the trek which will be starting the next day.

Time: 6 – 7 hours’ drive

Distance: 205 km

Day 2Trek from Kafnu to Mulling (10,637 m)

The first day of the trek would seem to be quite challenging for you and it will take you through dense coniferous forests. And trek to this place is so considerable that it adds thrills to your trek. Let us take you around what exactly this trek is all about, ‘Bhaba Hydro Project’, is India’s first underground dam which comes into the picture and it should be noted that photography is prohibited here. Moving forward with the trial, post crossing a bridge you will end up to the left bank of the river Bhaba. Keep walking according to the narrow trail that goes up from the river bank. After walking for about 4 kms into the trail, you will then find yourself into the beautiful and dense forest that seems like you are imagining this kind of world in your dreams. Heading towards another bridge over the roaring Bhaba river will open up to a fresh scents of Mulling.

Night stay at Mulling in tents.

Trekking time: 8-9 hours

Day 3Trek from Mulling to Karah (11,653 ft.)

Begin your trek unhurried and climb over the bumpy trails, which covers the route with a stunning grassland and waterfall. Keep trekking to the trail, and a part of which will soon introduce you to a religious subterranean river, although no river can be seen, but you might be able to hear the gushing sound. Post crossing a serene meadow we will arrive at the campsite which would be situated by a stream.

Night stay at Karah in tents.

Trekking time: 5 hours

Day 4Trek from Karah to Phutsirang (13,474 ft.)

Being the shortest day of the trek, it involves a steep climbing. Crossing a tributary of the bewitching Bhaba river which flows from Phutsirang. Resume the steep climbing after we finish crossing the river. The trial is oppressed with loose rocks, so one has to be very careful. The day is full of crossing icy streams, wherein you will require to traverse yourself comfortably. Post reaching the campsite of lower Phutsirang, continue to ascend for 700 meters further until you notice yourself at Phutsirang, which will open up a view to beautiful surrounding passes- Tari Khango, Nimish Khango, and Pin Bhaba Pass!

Time: 4 hours

Day 5Rest and acclimatisation day at Phutsirang

Relax and charge yourself for the next day of your trek.

Day 6Trek from Phutsirang to Mangrungse(13,674 ft.) via Pin Bhaba Pass(16,105 ft.)

This day is the most critical and challenging day of the entire trek. Walk through steep inclines and cross the high passes that links the Bhaba and Pin valleys. Despite the day being quite tough, it will bring you with a beautiful view as you climb a high mountain pass. It is as exciting as a summit attempt. From the highest point of the valley (saddle point), the view changes from the verdant grasslands to the nearly barren valleys of Pin. You also get a glimpse of the gushing Pin river from here. The trek takes a scandalous turn as the route is covered in rocks and loose stones forming a slope on the mountain. Stride slowly. After a few hours, you will cross the ice cold waters of the Pin river, post which the trek will start descending to the campsite of Mangrungse. Notice yourself in the captivating vistas of the colourful mountains of Spiti, and enjoy the calmness of the roaring Pin watercourse.

Time: 9 hours

Day 7Trek from Mangrungse to Mudh (12,283 ft.)

This being the last day of the trek, it involves a long trail to Mudh. Early morning heading towards the Bara Boulder campsite, from where the trek will start descending gradually. It is advised to refill your bottles at Mangrungse itself since the water available on the way to Mudh is not clean and safe. After crossing the tributary of Pin river which is situated quite close to the Bara Boulder, crossing the stream will lead you to a flat land, which offers a sneak peek into the calm village of Mudh. Lastly, a short climb after crossing the bridge of the Pin river will help you reach to the village.

Time: 7 hours

Day 8Drive from Mudh to Manali

You will be transferred to Manali around 08:00 PM. This is the end of your beautiful and thrilling trek with a bagpack of memories.
