Why So Many Visitors to Italy Choose Amalfi Coast Villas

When it comes to warm weather destinations, Italy is one of the most popular countries among western tourists; and within Italy, one of the most favoured destinations is the Amalfi coast. Offering scenic vistas, great beaches, a smattering of history, and just enough of the 'real' Italy to appeal to all demographics, it is no surprise that Amalfi Coast villas are almost as sought after as their Tuscan or Puglian counterparts. Detailed below are just a few of the benefits of renting out accommodation in this region during the summer.

Scenic and Varied

One of the main reasons so many tourists choose to rent Amalfi Coast villas each summer is the region's perfect balance of variety and scenery. The area offers miles of sprawling sandy beaches set against breath-taking mountain backdrops, but unlike many similar areas in the world, visitors who wish to do more than simply lie on a towel baking all day long will not be short of things to do and see.

Among the main attractions of this part of Italy (apart from the stunning Amalfi Coast villas) is the 9th century cathedral, located in the town itself. Renovated multiple times throughout the centuries, this edifice is dedicated to St Andrew, the remains of whom are said to be buried in the building's crypt. The interior is Baroque and features two statues by sculptor Bernini, further cementing this as a must-see place for visitors who are interested in the region's history.

The cathedral is not, however, the only motive of interest for historians or ramblers. The town itself offers any number of charming, rustic, narrow streets, perfect for exploring and which retain a little of the medieval ambiance of the town's early days. The yellow-and-pink paint scheme of the houses and the striped fishing boats add a touch of colour, creating an atmosphere that is friendly, vibrant and scenic without being twee.

Spending a holiday in this lovely region also provides plenty of opportunity to people-watch or play a boat-spotting game with the numerous yachts moored along the coast. Among the many famous owners of these boats are such luminaries as musician Elton John and Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovich.

It is easy to see, then, why Amalfi Coast villas are such a hot commodity each and every summer. With scenic attractions, mouth-watering Italian food and friendly locals, the region asserts itself well against other mainstays of the country, such as Tuscany. Less courageous visitors should, however, remember to keep their eyes tightly shut during the vertiginous ride from the airport to the main town!
