Contemporary Bathroom Design Ideas

The turn of a new decade means new fashions, styles and designs become a part of contemporary design. For bathroom stylists, designers and home renovators, it is essential to keep up to date with the latest trends and desired designs. Several favourite styles are repeatedly turning heads amongst the design community. Typically, these designs play with the colour black and gold, include beautiful tiles and feature pebbles, excellent lighting and different feature pieces that bring a feel of total luxury to the bathroom.

Many popular designs are going around at the moment; however, here are a few that hopefully spark your sense of creativity.

Popular Bathroom Designs

Recently, the rain shower has become something of a necessity for many people. Usually paired with traditional showerheads, the rain shower acts as a second or even third shower head that sits in the middle of the shower on the roof. The idea behind it is that it offers much lighter water pressure with a larger surface area, somewhat mirroring rainfall. Alongside the calming effects of this, the design of it can be very visually appealing as it does not sit mounted on the wall with exposed pipes but instead fits neatly into the ceiling.

Another popular strategy to modernising your bathroom is creating a feature wall. This feature wall should boast luxury with a unique array of wall tiles or different material that stands out from the rest of the room, a smart storage element, or even a feature piece like a sculpture or aesthetic towel rack. The benefit is instant style, but also an opportunity to add a touch of you to the room – something that expresses your interests. Ultimately, the best bathrooms are those that have been created as an extension of self.

Getting creative with your new bathroom design is really important. Challenge the traditional views of what a bathroom should look like – several of the most luxurious bathrooms have rid the conventional style of standard, silver, stainless-steel faucets and towel racks etc. and gone with gold or copper-coloured alternatives. Minor details such as this will take your bathroom to the next level.

Lighting Your Bathroom

As much as it is vital to have great features, beautiful bathroom tiles, and a relaxing shower, there is something much more critical to modernising your bathroom. Lighting.

The overall amount of light and the position and angle of lights in your bathroom is one of the most important things to consider when renovating or designing. Good lighting will always be the difference between a standard bathroom and one that stands out in its class.

Most people would suggest that there are two types of lighting – natural and artificial light and that natural lighting will create the best look for your bathroom. However, contemporary bathroom designers would argue that other types of artificial lighting work wonders on the overall style of the room. For example, the use of accent lighting is becoming a more and more widely used way of creating luxury in the bathroom. By positioning an LED light in specific areas such as, above a feature piece, or a hidden towel rack, or above and around the mirror, you highlight the best features of the room, while also giving it a feeling of pure class.

Bold Bathroom Design

Some design ideas stand out amongst the rest, specifically, the sunken bathtub and the concrete look. Both express the best of 2020 design but are less common as they both have particular looks.

Used more commonly in bigger bathrooms with a view, a rather bold feature in some luxurious bathrooms is the sunken bathtub. As the name suggests, this refers to the bath being below the floor line. The idea here is to expose only the outer lining of the bathtub, making it feel more like a spa or a pool. This is a rather uncommon style as it can be expensive to install, but the end results are magnificent.

If you're going for a next-generation design for your bathroom, consider taking on the challenge of a full concrete bathroom. This will transform your bathroom into a style icon. The issue, however, for many people with a full concrete bathroom is solely based on the difficulty of installing it. It can be much harder than a typical tile design. However, if done right, with the right balance of natural and artificial lighting, the results will speak for themselves.
