With every move the team made, disappointment writ large on the countenance of the guests. On tiger safari this is normal, guests do turn back disappointed. Pardon me for opening with such depressing note. But this is the truth many people may not see a tiger on their first excursions in the park. That is why a number of rides are planned.

The reserves are not zoos nor are they enclosed safari parks, they are open and vast jungles, the big cats have all the space to move around without being discovered. This is where the fun begins in the zoo or a park you are certain to see a big cat but here it is a tough task to come across them. The tracking is exacting but rewarding in true sense when you do spot a tiger. This element of surprise attracts more and more visitors to the reserves or National Parks in India.

Tiger Safaris are real thrills, an exciting adventure along with discovering the secretive wilderness. Encounters with the big cats take place often in many tiger reserves which are singled out for visits by many wildlife enthusiasts, film makers, photographers and holiday makers. These expeditions are all encompassing since the experience is broad spectrum and diverse.

The tiger reserves in India are wide spread with many equally enchanting cohabitants which enhance the experience of wilderness and picturesque settings that prevail. Most of them are rich in birdlife hence accord dual pleasure of wildlife watching as well as birding.

While searching for tigers the destinations also offer sightings of rare and endangered mega fauna some of which can be endemic. Take example of Kaziranga home to the big cats, one horned rhino, wild elephant, wild water buffalo, swamp and hog deer. Another example is that of Corbett Tiger Reserve home to hog deer, goral goat antelope, king cobra, tiger, leopard and innumerable bird species.

Kanha National Park is home to the tiger, leopard, wild dog, sloth bear, hard ground swamp deer and the bison. The bird life is excellent as well. Both Kanha and Bandhavgarh offer the best sightings of the tiger in its natural environment. Some of the National Parks may not be home to charismatic megafauna but are situated in proximity of popular parks.

Another advantage of tour comprising of visit to many reserves is the sightseeing potential. Almost all packages include a visit to Agra for Taj, New Delhi for Red Fort and Qutub Minar, Khajuraho Temples in MP, Jaipur, Ooty, Munnar and the State of Kerala.

A glimpse of towns is also possible in such journeys in India and this is an eye opener to the Nation’s human diversity and the amazing landscapes that one encounters. Another aspect is the experience of local culinary specialities wherever one goes. Rites and rituals are very much part of Hindu India and the colorful festivals adds much jest to life.

While the prime focus is on tiger safari in India the holiday experience is multifold. The tours deliver much more than wildlife watching and birding…it is a holistic journey that encompasses the hidden facets of life in this country. If you are traveling independent just remember you will need a permit for each safari in the reserves. Book all travel necessities well in advance.
