The Deccan plateau is one of India's physiographic divisions and one of the main landmasses of the country. The Western Ghats are continuous mountain ranges, but the Eastern Ghats are discontinuous mountain ranges and known mainly for its beautiful beaches. The Eastern Ghats are low-height ranges, but the Western Ghats has an average elevation of 1500m.

Why Visit the Western Ghats?

The Western Ghats is one of India's most beautiful spots where the mist plays hide-and-seek with the mountains. It stretches for 1600 km and touches as many as five states. There are many lovely places here such as -

1. Agumbe

Located in the hilly region of Karnataka, the place is famous for its magical sunsets. There are wild forests here that are home to various snakes and reptiles, including the King Cobra.

2. Coonoor

Coonoor is one of the pristine hill stations of the country. Ooty is more famous than this place, but people will love the tranquillity and solitude here. There are trekking routes, bird watching options, a toy train, and a mountain railway that is more than 100 years old. Coonoor will surprise you with its unspoiled beauty and is a perfect getaway for those who want to run away from city life for a while.

3. Dandeli

Dandeli is a small town in the Western Ghats, but it offers many activities for you, such as white-water rafting and trekking. The town is surrounded by deciduous forest and is renowned as a perfect habitat where one would come across rare vegetation and animals. It is located 125 kilometers from Goa, which means that you can drive down to Goa, enjoy the beach, and come back early the next day.

4. Kalpatta

The forests in the Kalpatta region of Wayanad are very dense but showcase the real beauty of Kerala. The new breeds of animals, the waterfalls, the tea gardens, and the mountain landscapes make Wayanad the most endearing place in the country. If you have a nose for history, you should proceed towards the all-new Heritage Museum. The place is also famous for the 2nd largest dam in Asia – Banasugar Sagar Dam.

Why visit the Eastern Ghats?

The 7500 km long coastline on the Eastern Ghats is home to fantastic terrain that only this country can offer. If you are fond of beach life, then you should spend a month on the Eastern Ghats!

1. Gopalpur Beach

Gopalpur is one of the least discovered tourist spots in the country. It has one of the best beaches in the country, and the view of the sunrise from here is simply mesmerizing. Many travel experts claim that Gopalpur is a hidden gem as it is a favorite spot for sports like rowing, windsurfing, and scuba diving.

2. Ramkrishna Beach

It is easily one of the most popular beaches of Andhra Pradesh and easily accessible from Vishakapatnam. The beach was named after Ramkrishna Mission. Since the beach enjoys an excellent location, the beach gets crowded in the evenings. There are also food vendors on the beach who offer unique local delicacies.

3. Chandipur

A seaside village, Chandipur, is very secluded, where dense groves on almost all sides surround the beach. The area is famous for the sizable population of horseshoe crabs, and if you are a nature lover, you will fall in love with this place.
