Maharashtra is a state in India, surrounded by Shayadri Mountains therefore there are many best forts in Maharashtra. The first image that comes to mind when you mention Maharashtra is of forts. There are 350 or more forts in Maharashtra and though some are not in great condition, many of these are as strong as ever. These are located on top of mountains and have a magnificent architecture and topography. Almost all these forts are connected to history as many were either built by Chhatrapati Shivaji or captured by him.   1. 1. SHIVNERI FORT :

The fort is located in the Junnar city of Pune district of Maharashtra. This fort is known as the birthplace of the Maratha Empire founder and king (????) Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The fort was said to be built by Shahaji Raje to protect his son Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his wife Veermata Jijabai. The fort, if watched from above, looks like a triangular shape where its entry gate.

The fort is located near Mahad in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. It is one of the most important forts as well as the capital of all the Forts of Maratha Empire. The fort was build by Hiroji Indulkar, chief architect of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. This fort is not only a historic place but also a Pilgrimage temple. There is also a Statue of his loyal dog named Wagya on the fort.

The fort is located in the Satara district Of Maharashtra. It is nearby to one of the famous hill Stations Mahabaleshwar. The fort was build by Chhtrapati Shivaji Maharaj. when he was Expanding his Empire toward Vijapur. There are Two forts, upper fort and lower fort build here at Pratapgad killa. This fort was earlier known as Kondana fort. It is Located near the Pune district in Maharashtra. The fort is also on the famous fort in Maharashtra which has a great history of Tanaji Malusare. The fort was captured by Tanaji Malusare and his brother. Sinhagad fort was strategically built to provide natural protection from the enemies due to its very steep slopes.

The fort is an island fort located near Murud in Raigad district of Maharashtra. It is situated on the oval shaped rock in the Arabain Sea. The fort’s main gate faces toward the Rajapuri jetty and it can only see when one will get close to the fort.
