The city that is beautifully filled with turmeric fields and handloom weavers. The city that has numerous buildings and beautiful sights to enjoy. That is Erode for you. Erode is a must-visit destination if you are in and around Tamil Nadu. And here are a few reasons to plan your trip to Erode.

1. Erode cuisine.

What do you expect in a city of turmeric? Yes! The food is rich in the taste of turmeric and is influenced by the cuisine of Karnataka too. There are a variety of items which you must give it a try if you are in Erode.

  1. Killu Kari: A spicy mutton curry that can blow your mind! The good thing about erode’s cuisine is they avoid using a lot of adultered masalas. Instead, this is made only of mutton, onion, ginger, turmeric, oil and garlic paste. Imagine it with a hot plate of rice.
  2. Erode Pallipalayam Chicken: Made with red chillies and garlic on one side, this is a snack and goes with anything and everything. People love this dish and is easy to prepare. What tasting the dish from an authentic erode restaurant is an extremely different feel!
  3. Kanji: This is similar to a porridge. In Kerala, we have the dish with the same name and is the healthiest. Erode uses Kanji as a breakfast item and instead of rice, they use wheat and millets. Sounds extremely healthy. There are sweet and salt versions of it available.
  4. Katti Paruppu: This is a starter item made of chickpea dal and is a balance to the spicy food that may follow. Erode cuisine is spicy and you will love it.
  5. Poricha Kootu: As the name suggests it is a ‘kootu’ or mixture of lentils in coconut and pepper. It is also used as anything you want it to be, a starter, main dish or side dish!
  6. Coconut chutney: This is the signature dish of South India. Any south Indian who goes to the north, if asked what you miss, the answer would be a good, tasty, ‘real’ coconut chutney! Erode is no different and we get the best chutney here.

Erode sightseeing.

1. Erode Government Museum.

Excluding the Fridays and second- Saturdays, this shelter of art and aesthetics is open to all on every day. A must-visit for the people interested in history, as there are a lot of remnants of the Chola kingdom and palm-leaf manuscripts showcased here. It increases the beauty and culture of the place. Very informative and attractive, even a person who finds the ancient studies boring can visit the Government museum to see the essence of the place itself.

2. Vellode Bird Sanctuary.

This is another special place and speciality of Erode. There are answers to all interests of people. For example, Vellode Bird Sanctuary is the perfect getaway for a nature-lover. We have to know that, if a place has a natural sanctuary, then the residents and the government has to be very responsible. This is because thousands of migratory birds visit the place during the months of November to March and they shouldn’t face any human threat. And the biggest challenge is that it is a place of a visit to thousands of people. But, the strict rules and the efficient government has done it beautifully.

3. Various legacy Temples and churches.

There are various heritage temples and churches and such monuments are still preserved by the government. Photographers are most welcome to such temples and churches for its amazing architecture.
