Long term care (LTC) is considered invaluable for people who are not able to take care of themselves. The reason for needing LTC can be due to old age, mental disorders and physical disability. There are also modern factors that may affect people and make them need LTC, regardless of age.
These modern risk factors may not immediately cause damage but it may with prolonged exposure. Some of these health issues were speculated about 20 years ago. Since then, modern people may have forgotten these warnings.
Computer Vision Syndrome
Also known as occupational asthenopia, computer vision syndrome (CVS) causes vision related issues. This happens to people who spend longer than average time on computers. The American Optometric Association stated that symptoms of CVS include:headaches, dry or red eyes, blurred or double vision, inability to focus, color blindness, light sensitivity. And back or neck pain.
Manufacturers have a standard suggested use of computers. Such instructions include having at least 2 feet of space from the screen and keeping the monitor six inches below eye level. Lighting is also important as it determines the level of eye strain. Use of eye drops is also suggested to prevent dryness or redness of the eyes.

Earbuds or in-ear headphones are the preferred equipment by the modern consumer. It’s good at isolating sound and completely blocking out noise. The negative side to using these is caused by extended usage and extremely loud volume. Hearing loss can be experienced within 10 minutes of use. Most people prefer this type of headphones for many reasons.
Unfortunately, people use this gadget every day, mostly during travels or commute to or from work or school. Doctorozi News, a health care blog, suggests switching to out-ear headphones and keeping the volume at appropriate volume.

These clots become clogs in the lungs and cause pulmonary embolism. This is caused by prolonged periods of immobility. Only a handful of cases of thrombosis had been reported and most occurrences happened to people who spend extended hours on the computer.
Risk factors can be avoided by walking at least fora minute within an hour. Making leg movements such as foot tapping can help blood circulation.

Social Anxiety Disorder

This fear becomes intense and it affects their performance from school or work. This makes them avoid people to lessen the feeling of unreasonable anxiety.
The condition manifests physically in forms of: trembling, heart palpitations, upset stomach, diarrhea and confusion. The causes are still undetermined but studies show that it can be traced from childhood anxiety. Treatments for this condition require: medication, psychotherapy or both.
