High availability of arms and increased trade has made Africa one of the vulnerable continents when it comes to terrorism and inevitable wars. The post- cold war developments and great advancement in technology have contributed to the increased number of weapons in African nations. The inability of the international community to control the number of guns that are being trafficked from one country to another have also spurred the trade. Many African leaders have also not played great roles in aiding eradicate arms trade in their countries; this has led to devastating conflicts in the nations.

Many countries political powerhouse have collapse due to increased violence and demonstrations that involve scary gun battles with police and government forces.

It has not been easy to eradicate illegal arms trafficking in Africa. Organizations such as Organization of African Unity [OAU] has even issued declaration on the illicit circulation and trafficking of arms.
