How to Migrate to Australia using the Skilled Migration Program

Australia is one of just a handful of countries that offers a general skilled migration system. The reason that the government has a general skilled migration system is it serves a crucial end of supplying the labour market in Australia with skilled workers, notably when there is a shortfall.

Every year over 70,000 people migrate to Australia through the skilled migration program. Some of the occupations that are most likely to succeed in the immigration process are professions such as medicine, engineering, information technology professionals, accountants, architects, scientists, teachers, nurses, specialist doctors and nurses. If you have more than 3 years experience in these professions and are under 50, it is highly likely that you will be able to migrate to Australia. People in Australia have migrated from virtually every country on earth and Australia is known for its welcoming, diverse and accepting culture.

The Skilled Migration Program\'s purpose is to bring individuals that are highly employable for migration to Australia. It is the most typical form of migration to Australia.

What are the minimum requirements?

There are some minimum requirements for skilled migration to Australia. They are that you are less than 50 years of age. You must also meet the requirement of English language of 6 in all bands on IELTS test which is defined as \'Competent English\'. You will also need a Skills Assessment in a Nomination Occupation on the Skilled Occupation List and at least 3 years of skilled employment in nominated occupation. Although there are some exceptions, ordinarily you will need a Bachelors degree or higher such as a masters or PhD relevant to your nominated occupation.

Visa Subclasses

There are a number of skilled migration alternatives:

Skilled Separate Subclass 189

Permanent visa alternative, the skilled independent does not require sponsorship by a relative or state/territory government

A long-term visa needing nomination by an Australian State or Territory government

Skilled Nominated or Sponsored Provisional Subclass 489

This is a 4-year provisional visa that allows holders to live only in particular places of Australia. You will have to be sponsored by an Australian relative living in an area that is designated, or by a state or territory government.

The sponsored visa that is regional that is skilled is the permanent phase of the provisional skilled migration visas. You must live in the required region of Australia for 2 years and work there for 12 months, to qualify for a skilled regional visa.

Skilled Grad 485

The skilled graduate visa is an 18-month visa which international students who have finished 2 years of study can apply for.
