We have progressed from Stone Age to Space Age and are now rushing toward the age of artificial intelligence (AI). An age where, in layman’s terms, we will have substitutions for the human brain. An age where computers and robots will perform tasks that we perform today. There is an advancement of this technology at an alarming speed, especially in the West. At the same time, abundant data termed as ‘Big Data’ is being collected at an impossible rate. Even something as simple as liking a Facebook post sends information about you and that is why you would see similar posts and social media highly attuned to your likes and dislikes. This collection of data takes place on all platforms which makes the amount of data collected unimaginable.

This data is then used to provide directions and training to AI. For example, the AI chatbots (some that we often use today on websites), can be trained to understand people’s responses and try to solve problems by feeding the chat bots data received from messengers showing how people text and talk as well as voice recording of humans. From among vast data resources, AI can recognize patterns which is not possible for humans. Chatbots are often used for customer service sites to answers the customer’s questions.

AI automates tasks to reduce the amount of human labour used in organizations. AI can also help to translate texts and messages in different languages and can bridge the gap. The government can become more efficient through AI as there will be less paperwork and computer systems to handle much of the work. Artificial intelligence helps create apps that allow people to keep a check on their health and checking their symptoms through this app before going to hospitals. This saves unnecessary hospital visits as these apps and chatbots can also give answers and advice for some of the minor diseases. A company somewhere is manufacturing irobots for efficient cleaning where it can determine how much cleaning there is to do based on the room’s size.

In New York, AI has been used to create a financial search engine that helps investors. This search engine can scan substantial amounts of data from thousands and millions of financial institutions and resources and give results that can save many hours and days of work for the financial data analysts. Chatbots are also used in the travel field where they suggest flights, hotels and places to see at the destination that you choose. Google Maps with minute details about all the places and having a voice recording installed is an excellent example of artificial intelligence. There are also travel apps that provide travel advice and suggestions. Artificial Intelligence has made image recognition possible on Facebook and Instagram hence asking us to tag someone and showing the correct names even before we have tagged them. Artificial intelligence is highly used to design and update social media platforms and it will rise more so looking at how important the internet has become.

In conclusion, Artificial Intelligence has penetrated almost all aspects of human life and is said to overtake a lot of things in the future. It has its pros and cons. If used appropriately it can lead to success and progress of the human race hitherto unseen.
