When to See a Gynecologic Oncologist?

Gynecology is a subject with mysteries becaues many issues sorrouinding the tissues around reproductive organs because thay are subjected to ware and tare, exposure to urinary and genital secretions, irritation and some common infections etc will predispose them to some common oncological conditions.Most women are luckily escapes from cancers if the delivery, pregnancy and postnantal care is proper but lack of hygiene, care and techniques of right labor method will put them to a critical situation of diagnosing as a cancer.
Gynecologic cancer is one of the the fourth most common type of cancers among women, at least 1 in 20 women globally be affected by this condition as per the recent stats.
Unfortunately most of the gynecologic cancers go unnoticed and mistaken as general infections and bleeding disorders of prenatal and postnatal period. Care must be taken and to be well informed about specific signs of tumors or neoplasmic activities in and around the genitalia and urinary system. Most common among them are ovarian cancer,, cancer of uterus, vaginal cancer,cervical cancer, and cancer of uvla etc. These can either be single or can also be alone, but one more important condition that everone hesitate to include in gynecologic cancers are brest cancer. It is becoming so common in those riskier classes of women.
Some of the risk factors of oncologic gynecology are
- Women with elderly primary or early conception
- Women sustainable consumes alcohol and she must be a chronic smoker while in reproductive age group.
- Familial vulnerability of cervical, vaginal, breast and other reproductive organ cancers.
- Nutritional deprivation and risky nutriti0onal practices by eating the diet with chemicals, fat, irritants etc.
- Number and position of pregnancies, number of child births is a predisposing factor for women to have an oncologist condition in women.
- Chronic viral infections, irritants in the past, untreated bacterial infections, HIV and unhygenic sex practices
Some of the warning signs in which a woman must meet an oncologist are
- A sore that doesn't heal in and around the area of the anus, genital and inner walls of the vagina and cervix.
- A lumpy mass around reproductive organs that looks suspicious of cancerous activity.
- Difficulty with bowel and bladder activity.
- A mass that is getting larger, thickening that can be felt and visualized.
- Burning sensation while passing urine
- Persistent indigestion or feeling of bloating
7. Pain in the pelvic area, inflammatory symptoms around pelvis.
- White discharge in case of uterine mass.
- Sudden loss of weight, weakness in the women and unexplained infections in and around the genitalia.
- Unusual vaginal bleeding or discharge, this especially true in case of menopause,.
- Changes in bowel or bladder habits
- Women often feel constipation and taped stools in case of anogenital cancers that need to be screened.
- A hard lump around the areola of breast, unusual breast discharge, asymmetric breasts, pain and enlargement of specific area of breast.
What to do if these signs are evident?
- Regular self breast examination (SBE) is a must where women need to meet a gynecological obstetrician who teaches these techniques.
- Caution must be taken to prevent unhygenic practices.
- Healthy sex life and practices
- Quick action in case of a lump, mass, discharge, pain that is existing in a very long time.
- Anemia and sudden weight loss need to monitored.
- Pap smear is a common test done to identify cervical cancers, it is good to undergo cervical pap smear test once in a while, this is especially true in case of vulnerable age groups and menopausal stages.
