All of us experience eye fatigue or tired eyes once in a while, and some of us have it more frequently than others. In today’s world of digitalization, both our work as well as our entertainment depend mostly staring at the bright screens of electronic devices like smartphones, computers, tablets, laptops and TV screens as well as LED lights. This has made eye fatigue a common problem than ever before.

Eye fatigue is not a disease and does not require any kind of treatment. But it makes you feel unhealthy and also hampers your productivity. There are many causes of eye fatigue. Here are the most common ones.

Weak lighting – Poor or weak lighting is one of the reasons as it increases the strain on the eyes because they have to work more to focus in a poor lighting condition.

Staring at the screens of electronic devices for long – If you stare at the screens of electronic devices for long, you will have tired eyes. Your eyes have to work hard to focus on the small words, held so close to your face. The eye experts advise wearing eye fatigue computer glasses while using electronic devices. They help a lot.

Sleeplessness – A good night sleep helps your eye muscles relax. Not getting proper or sound sleep can also end up in red, sore and tired eyes.

Decreased blinking of eyes – On average, your eye should blink 12 to 18 times in a minute. The rate of blink can reduce to just half while reading or staring at digital screens. This can result in red, burning or tired eyes.

Refractive error – Refractive error also increases the strain. It can further result in headaches and eye fatigue.

There are many signs of eye fatigue. These include dry eyes, red or watery eyes, trouble focusing, heavy eyes, blurred vision, pain in the shoulder, back and neck; and more. If you follow some standard tips, you can prevent this problem to a large extent. And if you find they are not helpful and the tiredness persists, you should take help of an eye doctor. There can be any underlying medical cause for it. Get sufficient sleep and make sure you have proper lighting in the rooms. Take short breaks while working on digital screens. Wear Blue light protective glasses as they are good at blocking the blue light. Blue light glasses are available with the leading stores. Many reputable brands stock them in huge varieties. You can visit one of these stores or also shop online. You will find these helpful glasses in a variety of styles and sizes.

Generally, you can get rid of eye fatigue if you take precautionary measures. In case your eyes continue to be tired, you should seek medical help. Other symptoms you should not take lightly include persistent headaches, pain while blinking, any double vision, excessive dry eyes or watery eyes, allergies, itchiness or soreness. You should get in touch with an experienced eye doctor to get the best advice and treatment.
