Online School vs. Traditional School - Which One Is Right For You?
Posted: Aug 21, 2020
There is no "right" way to go to school, but it is possible to find the "right" type of school for you. Both online schools and traditional schools have a lot to offer students, and both have their perks. When you are trying to decide where and how to earn your degree, there are lots of things you should keep in mind. Some of these things are
- On-Campus or Anywhere?
- Near or Far?
- Short Cut or Scenic Route?
- Short Cut or Scenic Route?
- Visual or Hands-On?
- Organized or Free-Spirited?
Now let's talk about it in details
On-Campus or Anywhere?
The most obvious difference between online and traditional schools is that with traditional school, you’ll have to attend classes on campus and with online school, you won’t. Traditional degree programs require students to enroll in classes and attend them in person, on the school’s campus. Online schools allow you to take courses anywhere you are and any time it is most convenient for you.
Near or Far?
With online school, you have the luxury of enrolling in a school anywhere. You aren’t limited by geographic area or by travel issues. You can take classes from a school across the country, or in your city, all without leaving your home office. However, if you attend traditional classes, you need to live near the school so you can attend class on campus. For some, this may be a deciding factor when it comes to making decisions about how to earn their degree.
Short Cut or Scenic Route?
Generally, online degrees can be earned a little faster than a degree from a traditional school. Of course, this depends on how many classes you are able to take at once, and whether or not you take a summer vacation. But, if you are looking for a way to earn your degree quickly, online school may be a good fit for you.
Visual or Hands-On?
If you are the type that learns by doing, or by talking face-to-face with someone, a traditional school may be better for you. Traditional programs offer student labs, personal tutoring, and of course, you will get to speak to your teacher directly. Online degree programs are mostly made up of online readings, online chats, discussion forums, and maybe videotaped lectures.
Organized or Free-Spirited?
Online school is great for students who are free-spirited and who like to do things at their own pace. Many programs allow students to work at their own pace and take classes whenever it is most convenient for them. You’ll get to decide how quickly you work through your program and how many classes you take each semester. If you attend a traditional school, you will be required to attend class at a certain time and won’t have as much flexibility as far as taking things at your own pace goes.
Conclusion
Both online and traditional school programs are excellent ways to earn your degree. Each type of program has its benefits, but in the end, both offer the same type of degree. Take these questions into consideration before you enroll in school and you’ll find the right program for you.
