Though the term iron works sounds inferior whence compared to its sophisticated cousin steel this is a wrong assumption. Iron works or metal works refers to pure iron which is cheaper and regularly used to make building components or accessories besides major commercial and industrial applications. In case of steel which contains one percent carbon this element is spread evenly throughout during formation.

Metal fabrication is a broader term which involves both steel and iron besides others. But in common parley steel fabrication and iron works are more often referred. Iron works is use of iron post production to make building components. Due to complexities in manufacturing process iron works remained a larger industry the structural steel in USA.

Why Use Iron?

It is the cost that matters since steel is costlier. In the periodic table it has been assigned the symbol "Fe". The raw material is found in wild abundance on Earth but it is too soft to turn into an architectural component or building feature. Thus during the smelting process iron is hardened with addition of carbon. The use of this metal for building purpose dates back to centuries and still continue.

There three major divisions:

Charcoal Iron – Earliest Production

Wrought Iron – Low Carbon Presence

Cast Iron – Carbon Content up to 4 percent.

Ironworks refers to a place where the metal is smelted or produced. It also refers to a place or shop where iron products are manufactured. There is a fundamental difference between iron and steel where as the former is composed of only iron hardened by steel the latter is a mixed alloy of iron and is composed of iron, carbon, magnesium, nickel and some on. Steel is better in terms of durability, corrosion resistance, and malleability and can be easily fabricated. Hence for structural or architectural purpose where stability and long lasting is concerned structural steel or light weight structural steel is used. But due to complexity of making steel iron making was for long time a major industry in countries like USA.

For building components iron has been used since ages due to low cost and reasonable stability. Wrought iron is often used in commercial application since it is stronger that cast iron and it can be heated and worked to give final shapes for component manufacture and manufacture of decorative items.

Iron workers in a fabrication unit manufacture large number of building components and architectural applications for residential and commercial purpose. These products find uses in construction as well due to quality and strength.

Some applications of fine iron works for industrial commercial purpose are:

Metal roof safety laddersSidewalk cellar doors Commercial staircasesRodent proof garbage or trash cansStorage bins Parapet roof railingsSolid Iron Window GuardsSolid Iron Fences Solid Iron Window Guards

The reputed iron work shops service building construction industry as well as commercial works. Some of the applications apply to hospitals, government buildings, commercial businesses, factories, stores, businesses, apartment complexes and institutions. The business of fabrication dealing with iron and metal is by all means a quality produce globally.
