Langtang Valley Trek Map Route & Itinerary

Being the nearest Himalayan Region from Capital city, Langtang Region provides you with both wilderness and an eye-catching view of nature. Langtang trek trail takes you to the home of many beautiful towering peaks like Langtang Lirung, Mt. Jugal, Gangala Peak, and many other peaks above 6000 meters. Trek to this less stroll and adventurous route of Langtang Valley Trekhelps you to heal your soul. Make your Langtang Trek trail diverse to experience thundering rivers, rhododendron, and other wildflowers. As you walk through Langtang National Park with the view of mighty mountains which touch the clouds astonishes you. If you are lucky then you will witness martens, wild boar, Himalayan black bear, Ghoral, monkey, and leopards. This region is also the shelter for musk deer, shy red panda, and mountain Pheasant.

Apart from natural beauty, trekking to Langtang valley also helps you to experience the culturally rich Tamang people, culture practice, and dress which is much similar to Tibet. Langtang Village is mostly famous for pleasant locals, unique traditional historical monuments, and beautiful Buddhist monasteries. Sounds of chants and fluttering prayer flags from Himalayan monasteries play a big role to generate peace and tranquillity along the path, uniting more charm to Langtang Valley Trek. You will be amazed to see the Tamang community with unfaltering passion and respect for their culture and never dying demeanour.

Just like other treks, Langtang Valley Trek also begins from Kathmandu. But you may have many questions regarding the best route or other route options during your trek. Well, there are two route options to reach Langtang Valley:

a. Langtang Valley Trek via Syabrubesi route

b. Langtang Valley Trek via Sundarijal route

Both of the routes are equally rich in nature and adventuresome. Though the Syabrubesi route is more popular among tourists than Sundarijal route. The further article will provide detail about the Langtang valley trek map route.

Langtang Valley Trek via Syabrubesi route

During Langtang Valley trek or other Langtang region trek, the Syabrubesi trial is the most popular route. Including Langtang valley trek Syabrubsi is also the gateway of Gosaikunda Trek and Tamang Heritage trek. Syabrubsei is the starting point for trekking to Langtang valley. To reach Syabrubesi from Kathmandu it takes 7-8 hours of adventurous ride covering 140-kilometers north. During the trip, you will drive along the Trishuli River, heading through Trishuli Bazar, Dhunche, and reach Syabrusbesi.

Mode of transportation to reach there

Via Local Bus

Travelling to a local bus is the most economic way and popular to reach Syabrubesi. But the local bus is usually packed, uncomfortable, and stiff. It will be a completely new experience as you have to travel with locals by sharing the bus. Local buses to Syabrubesi will leave from Machhapokhari Bus Park every day between 7 to 9 in the morning. The time may differ from the pause bus takes while riding. As the Himalayan road is full of extreme adventure you will experience the stiff cliffs, waterfalls, and mighty green hills during your ride.

Via Local Jeep/Private Jeep

Jeep is another best way to reach Syabrubesi in a short period of time. It's less time consuming but a bit pricey for the alternative to the bus. You have access to both local and private jeep to reach Syabrubesi. If you are going to the local jeep then you have to share a ride with a stranger but in private you can avoid that.

  • Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2,380m)
  • The distance from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel is about 11.3 kilometres which take about 6-7 hours of trek. You will ascend and descend constantly through the beautiful forest alongside Bhote Koshi and Langtang River. As the trek continues, you will be surrounded by beautiful oak and rhododendron forest. After you ascend the hill after Langtang River you will reach Lama Hotel where you can enjoy snow-filled mountains.

  • Lama Hotel to Mundu (3,430 m) via Langtang Village
  • The distance from Lama Hotel to Langtang Village is about 15 kilometres which takes approximately 6-7 hours of trek. Today you trek will be interesting as you will witness plenty of thundering waterfalls and sometimes a glimpse of Langtang Lirung if the weather is clear. Slowly the landscape will change from dense forest to the lush green meadow after you cross Ghoda Tabela. As you continue to descend uphill you will reach Langtang village. After 2015 a destructive earthquake there is less settlement, limited teahouse, and lodges in Langtang Village. After a half an hour trek we reached Mundu Village.

  • Mundu to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870 m)
  • Today the distance to Kyanjin Gompa is relatively less than other days. It is the only 9-kilometre distance from Mundu to Kyanjin Gompa which takes about 3-4 hours of trek. Langtang valley trek route starts with steep hill climbs through sacred mounds of rocks with carved inscriptions. As you incline higher you will be blessed with prayer flags, mani walls, and a beautiful view of Mt. Langtang Lirung, Mt. Langtang Ri, Dorje Lakpa. You will reach Kyanjin Gompa so you can spend the day by heading towards Langshisa Kharka or Cheese factory to Tsergo Ri (5,033 m).

  • Returning Back
  • One way to Langtang Trek Itinerary ends at Kyanjin Gompa and the trial will retrace back for homecoming. One the first day of homecoming you will be back to Lama Hotel from Kyangin Gompa which takes about 6 hours of trek. Most of the trials while returning are descending so it will be much quicker than ascending. Next morning you come to the final day of the trek at Syabrubesi. It takes about 5-6 hours of the trek here back at Syabrubesi. Then you will be back to Kathmandu along the scenic highway ride.

    Langtang Valley Trek via Sundarijal route

    The starting point for Langtang Valley Trek is Sundarijal (1400 m) as an alternative route. Sundarijal is also the entry point of Helambu Trek and a longer route for Langtang Trek. The Syabrubesi route takes a minimum of 6 days but Sundarijal takes at least 13-15 days to make it back home. The starting point Sundarija is just 15 kilometres from Kathmandu and takes just 40 -60 minutes.

    Mode of transportation to reach there

    Via Local Bus:

    You will get a local Bus from Old Bus Park beside Ratnapark. From the local bus, it may take 1 hour to reach Sundarijal Bus Park. The bus starts from the city area, drives through woods, hills and finally reaches Sundarijal.

    Via Private Cab/Taxi

    If you want a comfortable ride then the Private Cab is the best way to travel. It is also a quick way to reach your destination. Private Cab/Taxi will only take half an hour if there is no obstacle in the road.

    Langtang Valley Trek itinerary through Sundarijal
    • Sundarijal to Chisapani (2,134 m)
    • The distance from Sundarijal to Chisapani is about 11 kilometres and is done within 4 - 6 hours. The trial to Chisapani is well managed by stone stairways during your trek. Steep stone stairs inside the dense forest add the beauty of your trekking. After some walk, you will enter the Shivapuri National Park entrance which is the nearest national park from Kathmandu city. You will get ample opportunity to see endangered floras and faunas. As you reach the top, Chisapani welcomes you with a great view of Mt. Ganesh, Dorje Lakla, Manaslu, and several other peaks.

    • Chispani to Gul Bhanjyang (2,285 m)>

      Next day, you walk towards Gul Bhanjyang leaving Chisapani behind. If you have luck then you will witness the wild animals as you're through dense forest. After 5-6 hours of trek, you will reach Gul Bhanyang.
