In February 2008, the company’s third co-founder Nathan Blecharczyk, Chesky’s former roommate, joined as the Chief Technology Officer and the third co-founder of the new venture, which they named AirBed & Breakfast.

They combined their technical expertise and entrepreneurial spirits to create a website that would allow local residents to list their unused, under-utilized rooms. And allow travelers to book cheap room accommodation when hotels were sticking to their pre-recession room rates. This worked as a masterstroke. By 2009, Airbnb had nearly 10,000 users and 2,500 listings.
