The reference to spirits in lifestyle segment generally means consumable liquor or alcohol. The word has been drawn from the days of alchemists in Europe. Ethyl Alcohol is the only spirit that can be safely consumed by humans in limited quantity. Most of other alcohols are poisonous in some form or the other.

Being a part of lifestyle the World over, consumable spirits constitutes a huge volume commercially though not in countries where alcohol consumption is banned. But this is relatively in few countries, alcohol distilled or brewed in some form or other is consumed as part of culture.

Though there is a big debate as to in what quantity the substance is beneficial for health and if at all. But generally some spirits like gin contain antioxidants, minerals and vitamins as a virtue of being distilled with floral elements, roots, herbs spices and essential oils in natural forms. If consumed within limits liquor can have a calming effect among the stressed out drinkers. Yes it does cheer and uplifts but there is a way going about it.

A new trend after craft beer is emerging among the hard liquor segment as well. The formation of micro distilleries and breweries has led to a number of products that are as a result of a master blender’s creation and thus they are called craft or artisan spirits.

The micro distilleries are flourishing all over the World and provide stiff competition to mega distilleries. The emergence of small units has led to creation of new blends and innovative production methods in order to compete with established ones. The unique products establish a niche segment and attract customers in large numbers. Innovation has led craft produce to make dent in firmly rooted prerogative of global brands. Thus neighborhood bars and restaurants serving artisan brands are becoming highly popular day by day.

Where as mega distilleries continue to produce established brands with little variation in flavor and aroma, small players have to innovate and place new products which are distinctly unique on the racks to survive.

Whiskey, gin, tequila, rum, vodka constitutes spirit but the term does not include beer, wine and non alcoholic spirits. The latter are referred as such not because of absence of alcohol but the due to the aroma and taste that resembles it. These products are becoming globally popular as beverages, and in time come they will dominate the beverage market as well.

Small units are also producing non alcoholic spirits that resemble hard liquor. The resemblance in aroma and taste is the winning feature of the distillates. They are becoming popular among young adults and teetotalers besides they are also mixed in cocktails and mocktails globally. Although considered as similar to base liquors they are often consumed as stand alone drinks.

When you buy spirits online or anywhere in the World always read the ABV. The abbreviation stands for alcohol by volume and the percentage will help you understand the purpose and consumable limits of the produce. Some brands with high percentage of ABV are safe to consume only whence diluted or mixed in a cocktail.
