There are different kinds of toys available for every gender and age for children in the market. They love experimenting and shopping for toys with attractive designs and forms. They love collecting them and playing with them in groups. They also make them their best friend and start sharing their things.

Many companies launch toys for boys as well as girls. While superheroes are a hit with boys, a baby doll is a symbol of femininity and fashion amongst girls. Children play with different toys to pass their time. They play in groups of friends and cousins to add to the enjoyment. They learn the art of sharing and caring through these activities and also increase social interaction.

A baby doll set plays a significant role in the development of skills such as empathy, communication skills, and is the perfect role model for girls. Mostly, toys meant for girls have a more childlike appearance and come in a wide range of clothes and colours. They can wear all kinds of clothes like party wear, casual wear or play clothes which define their gender.

The marketing strategy for these toys

Most of the toy manufacturers use Inclusive Marketing as a method to promote their designs and products. Following is the criteria they follow:

(i) Visionary language and motifs: Stereotyped language and symbols often target toys based on gender, but boxes remain clear of them.

(ii) Representation: These toys come in different skin tones and hair types. People do not identify them as boys or girls all by themselves. Also, there are no representative images of human beings on the packages.

(iii) Inclusive names and language: While selling products to customers, manufacturers do not mention the gender that the toy refers. They have a neutral approach while they promote or advertise them, which is a positive sign. Kids learn to be fair and unbiased. The packaging labels and instructions are available in diverse languages for people all over the world.

(iv) Colours without stereotypes: Manufacturers usually pack a doll in shades of pink. But others add many different hues like mint green, bright yellow, and other combinations. There is a mixture of colours on the clothes of the toy, including each item splashed with colourful paint patterns.

Other toys

There were different kinds of toys available in sets and sold to the public. The Vintage Midge Doll set introduced in 1962 as Barbie's best friend has the same body as Barbie, with identical markings and the same transformations. It made sharing clothes and accessories easy. It had no freckles and a longer hairstyle.

The colour of her two-piece bathing suit depended entirely on the hair colour:

  • Red hair - Yellow and orange suit
  • Blonde hair - Two shade of blue suit
  • Brunette hair - Pink and red suit

The original Midge representations had straight legs that did not bend at the knee. It changed in 1965 when toys came with bendable legs and teeth. They also brought many other transformations like different clothing, shoes, and toy accessories. It helped children become friendlier and enabled them to share their things with their siblings. They were also able to take care of them and create attachments with them.
