How to Use an 8-Bit or 16-Bit Gaming Console with Your Modern TV
Posted: Nov 30, 2020
Do you own a 16-bit or 8-bit traditional gaming console? Do you want to connect it to your modern HDTV or LED TV? If you have answered these questions as yes, then you have come to the right place.
We are going to guide you on how to connect and use your old school gaming console to your advanced HD, FULL HD, or 4K TV. So, what are you waiting for? Let’s get started.
Old Gaming Consoles Connectivity Options for a Modern TV
You can still connect your 90s gaming console to your smart or LED TV. You have two basic options to choose from:
RF- It’s a coaxial cable for transferring video. The RF stands for radio frequency. It’s a traditional video transferring cable.
Composite cable has three primary cords, the red and white cords for the left and right audio channels and the yellow cord for video transmit. This option is a lot better as it works on many modern LED televisions. These days most of the smart and LED TVs have dedicated connectivity ports for RCA or Composite cable.
Some televisions might have these both connectivity options, but some might only have one of these. Whatsoever anyone from the above methods will perfectly work if you want to connect your console to your TV.
Connecting a Retro Gaming Console to a Modern TV
The best way to play retro games on your TV today is by connecting your retro console to your current TV.
If your gaming console has an RCA connectivity option or RF ports, then you can use this method:
Does your TV have AV or RCA ports? If yes, then get an RCA cable from any online shopping site or retail store. It is readily available on Amazon as well.
Once you have the cable, you should first locate the AV ports on your TV and plug this cable into those ports. Make sure to connect the same color wires to the same ports carefully. The yellow line goes to the yellow port, the red one should match the red port, and the white one should meet the white one port. After that, take another end of the cable and plug it into the console. Turn on your TV as well as your console. On your TV remote, press the source button and select the AV option.
Now you should see your gaming console interface on the TV. You can enjoy your retro games on your TV.
If your TV doesn’t have the RCA or AV ports but has an RF port, then you can use it in the same way to connect your gaming console. All you have to do is order your RF cable online.
If your TV does not have an RF or AV connectivity option, don’t worry, as you can still get your retro game console connected to your smart TV. All you have to do is purchase an HDMI to RCA converter. You can easily get it on Amazon for a few bucks.
It will enable you to connect your old 8-bit or 16-bit gaming console to your TV’s HDMI port. An HDMI to RCA converter allows users to connect any RCA compatible device to HDMI enabled TV. You will need to select HDMI as the source on your TV.
That’s all you have to do to connect your old school gaming device to your TV. We hope you have enjoyed this guide.
