With e-commerce being all the rage in the world right now, there have obviously been plenty of discussions regarding the tools one can use to build such stores. Suffice it to say that the market is also brimming with options of tools that help one put together some of the highest quality digital stores in the world. Among these many, many such solutions, there is one name that has consistently stood out: Magento. An open-source e-commerce platform, Magento allows one to bring distinctive online stores to life. Over the years, the platform has evolved considerably and brought out a variety of options to suit the distinctive needs of the modern market and businesses that serve it. Out of the bouquet of Magento solutions on offer, Magento Commerce Cloud has witnessed a massive surge in popularity off late.

This is because it is a fully integrated offering that enables companies to build engaging stores with a plethora of avant-garde features, the ability to completely tailor the store in accordance to the business' unique needs, and so much more. However, before one decides to take the plunge and adopt the solution for their e-commerce store, it is important to carefully examine its pros and cons. To help you do just that, we have put together a quick list of Magento Commerce Cloud's benefits and drawbacks.

a. Advantages

  1. Variety of tools: As noted above, Magento Commerce Cloud comes loaded with an abundance of tools, especially ones aimed at enhancing performance. The list includes ElasticSearch, support for Fastly CDN and Black.io, and NewRelic monitoring among other things. Fastly CDN is especially great for modern and complex caching settings.
  2. Customisation: It not only allows you to deploy Magento Marketplace extensions, but also build tailored extensions just like a Magento 2 extension. Sure enough, the deployment process for these custom extensions may be different, but rest assured that the development process is identical.
  3. Scalability: Of course, one of the key considerations while building an online store is how easily one can scale it as business grows. With Magento Commerce Cloud, you can rest assured that scalability will be as easy as ABC.

b. Disadvantages

  1. Additional overhead: Using Magento Commerce Cloud means you will be using several environments, each of them with its own server integrations. Unfortunately, this is not only considerably slow, but also tends to cause a lot of confusion, and unnecessarily draws out the development process.
  2. Support time: It goes without saying that support is essential when using such a tool to build the store. Magento's support system lacks considerably in this regard, especially if the site isn't live because that means your ticket is lower on the priority list. This can also prove to be quite expensive.
  3. Limited server access: First, since deployment is executed via Git push, the file system is read-only, which can make some third-party integration tricky to figure out. Furthermore, Magento either doesn't offer certain processes or they are disabled entirely. This can quickly take a toll on the development process.

There is absolutely no denying that Magento Commerce Cloud is a terrific solution, though it will necessitate careful planning and a sizable budget. To cut a long story short, out of all the cloud-based eCommerce portal solutions in the market, this indeed makes for a great choice, provided you have the expertise to help you navigate the development process.
