GARDEN CITY IS GOING TO BIFURCATE SOON

BBMP 'Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike' is likely to be bifurcated.Bangalore in-charge minister R Ramalinga Reddy is pushing for splitting the Palike. Finally come to notice that it is going to split.

The idea of bifurcation is not new. The need for the bifurcation of the BBMP was felt a few years ago, but no concrete effort was made in this direction. Tons of rotting garbage that piled up in various parts of Bangalore had made the authorities concerned give a thought to bifurcate the BBMP.

It was said the then BBMP commissioner MK Shankarlinge Gowda wrote a letter to the state government, emphasising the need to bifurcate the BBMP, but nothing was done. It was also said that S Suresh Kumar, minister for law and urban development, had a meeting with the authorities concerned. According to reliable sources, Suresh Kumar had assigned the responsibility of finding out pros and cons of the proposal to A Ravindra, adviser to chief minister on urban affairs. According to sources, Ravindra had conducted a couple of meetings with the authorities concerned to find out if it would be viable to bifurcate the BBMP.

It needs tough, efficient officials to run the city smoothly; for this, we already have a number of special and joint commissioners. Splitting the BBMP may create more jobs but it's no assurance that our city will be a better place to live in.

Former corporator Pradeep Kumar Reddy also opined that the bifurcation of the BBMP would facilitate better administration. "I have discussed the bifurcation issue with Amita Prasad, principal secretary, urban development department, three months ago. I am happy that chief minister wanted to split the BBMP into three divisions," says Reddy.

D.Venkatesh murthy is saying that "we will go to the Supreme Court on the Cauvery water issue. I had met Water Resources Minister Harish Rawat. He has sent a letter to me and the government assuring that water will be given on population basis. Currently, population as per the ‘91 census is being used; he has said that supply should be based on the 2011 census. For Bangalore, water can also be taken from Mekedatu, Hemavathi etc".

He is also telling that "In our BJP state manifesto, we have suggested that BBMP should be split into two or three new corporations. And there should be more power to the Mayor and a 30-month tenure for the latter's office. It's required and I will push for it".
