Hostels in Paris and Other Tips to Travel Affordably

Paris is the renowned city of lovers, poets, artists and the wealthy, allegedly. However, visiting the French capital on a budget can actually be a more rewarding experience than just your typical tourist visit with generic hotel stay. It is a sad fact that the cost of hotels can sometimes deter travellers from even contemplating a visit to this magnificent city. However, accommodation in hostels in Paris, along with some other thrifty money-saving measures, can open the city up for you in ways you may not have imagined.

Planning is Key

For a truly fulfilling experience, it is a good idea to prioritize the reasons you are going. Paris, like many other European destinations, simply cannot be fully appreciated in one visit. Therefore, when planning an itinerary it is best to work on the premise that less is more. Plan on seeing just a few key sights or attractions and give them your full attention. Trying to cram in as many historic sites as possible in one visit will leave you exhausted and frustrated with a city that needs time and leisure to be fully appreciated. Thankfully there are many hostels in Paris that are perfectly situated to give you quick and easy access to all the major attractions.

Location is Important

One of the most cost-effective ways of getting the best out of the city is to choose your location carefully. Hostels in Paris are typically located within walking distance of many of the city’s best attractions, but if not, then be careful to choose one within close proximity to a metro station or regular bus route – which certainly isn't hard. You can cut transportation costs by either renting a bicycle while you're here or bringing one with you. This is a very bicycle-friendly city and it is sometimes the best mode of transportation to avoid traffic or crowded trains or buses.

Off the Beaten Path

A lot of the charm of the city can only truly be found off the beaten tourist path. Finding spots where the locals go can open up a whole new element of exploration and culture. However, concerns over affordability should not keep you away from the city’s most beloved sights too. Hostels in Paris are incredibly affordable and also offer a wealth of information on free or inexpensive things to see and do in the city. For example, the Luxembourg Gardens are completely free and are absolutely the best spot to people watch and absorb the Parisian atmosphere. Mingling with other guests at your hostel will also open up a whole new world of ideas for things to do and see - perhaps with some newly-found friends.
