Kelwa beach is also known as Kelva beach in Palghar, Maharastra, India. The beach is wide and spreads through the Indian Ocean very far. For Mumbai residents who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the town, Kelwa Beach offers a tranquil escape from the rigor of living in a busy area. Because of words of mouth, Kelva beach is increasingly popular considering its lack of popularity as international tourist standards. The ride from Mumbai is just about an hour away. The population is small, with many fishing and agricultural inhabitants, but tourism is on the rise.

Why you should visit Kelva Beach

The beach of Kelva is a great place to spend the weekend with its Casuarina trees.

The southern end of the beach is home to the Kelva fort and the Sheetladevi Temple.

Traveling Tips

1. Learn a little Marathi or Hindi

Since English is widely spoken in Maharashtra, it is a great idea to learn a little Hindi or Marathi before visiting. Many Mumbai visitors visit Kelwa Beach and are likely to speak both languages, but since the area around here is much smaller, it's a good idea to learn Marathi or Hindi in case you run into someone who doesn't speak English.

2. Head to the beach on a weekday

It's not a challenging task, but if you want a quiet and enjoyable experience on the beach, go on weekdays when guests are lower and hotels are more readily available.

How to reach there

By Train

The Beach of Kelva is 5 km from the Kelva station which is linked with the western line. Therefore, whether you arrive from Mumbai or the suburban section, the train is much better to transport than a car.

By car

Moving through the city is not that difficult, and going into and out of the city is also very easy. You can easily reach the beach by car by driving about 80 kilometers north of Mumbai. Parking is available in or at many of the hotels in the area.

Places you can visit

Shitaladevi Temple

The temple of Shitladevi is of Shitala-Mata deity, situated near the beach of Kelva. Established in distant times, this temple was rebuilt and repaired by a queen, Devi Ahilyabai Holkar about 300 years ago. Since then, the base of the temple has been worn down and destroyed. An expert group of Kelve citizens formed a committee in 1986 for the repairs and refurbishment of the old house.

Kelva Dam

Kelva Dam was constructed many years ago to provide water to farmers in the Palghar district. It was once the irrigation source of the region, and thanks to the nearby garden now a prominent picnic spot.

Kelva Fort

This beach is home to three forts, including the Kelva Fort. At high tides, one is partly submerged in the sea at the southern end of the beach.

The other, smaller one is on the north side of the shore, among the coniferous plants or trees.

Where you can stay

Choose Coconut Valley, a beautiful villa, to spend your relaxing days by the beach. This property, located approximately a few hours from the city center, is ideal for a family or friend's gathering.
