There are many great reasons to visit Italy: food, art, cuisine, culture and the people rank highly as reasons this nation is so attractive to tourists. There are certain areas that capture this colour in all its depth and diversity – holidays in Puglia can offer a feast of colour for every sense.

Green - Parco Nazionale del Gargano

The wilderness of Italy appeals not only to eyes, but also to the nose. The colour of the landscape is in harmony with the sweet scents it produces. This is especially true in the delightful region of Puglia. The aroma and vibrant colour of the woods in the Parco Nazionale del Gargano are startling in their vitality. From the Tremiti Islands archipelago to the Mount Gargano promontory, the coastal forests of pine and ilex and lush orchards provide a wonderful stimulation for the senses.

Blue - Tremiti Islands

Of course, the most obvious indulgence for your senses in this natural wonderland is the one for your eyes. Your holidays in Puglia offer a particularly delightful experience in the mesmerising colours of the beaches of the Tremiti islands. These bucolic ocean hamlets invite true and total relaxation, and often you can find yourself on what feels like your very own private beach.

Red – Ostuni

Part of the pleasure of getting out and about in nature lies in true immersion with the elements. Of course, you can appreciate it in photographs, but to truly experience it you need to get down and dirty – or at least up close and personal! This is an easy task on nature-based holidays in Puglia. The colours of this landscape have long entranced artists, but you don't need to be creative to appreciate its beauty - the red ochre of the soil in Ostuni has a very unique appearance, and the vibrant colour and texture of this region is renowned.

White - Alberabello

Italy's history and heritage runs deep and is well renowned – and this region is no different. Holidays in Puglia can introduce you to a unique kind of traditional house called the "trulli". While there are differing theories on the origin of these strange white conical-roofed dwellings – including as temporary agricultural stores and permanent accommodation - there is no doubt about their unique place in local and national history. They are made from limestone using an ancient dry-wall technique, and many have stood the test of time and the elements to become one of the region's most enduring and iconic symbols. While some are still inhabited by locals, there are also opportunities for visitors to stay in these unique constructions.
