While 3D printing and 3D printing software aren't completely new technology, the technology is capturing the interest of people in various industries around the world.

Why is 3D printing becoming big? Well, there are several reasons why that might be happening.

The Practicality of 3D Printing

To start, 3D printing is considered rather cost effective for businesses, especially those in the manufacturing industry. The technology, in fact, is mainly used by business enterprises who need rapid prototyping equipment to produce working prototypes in less time.

It's the manufacturing, medical and architecture industries who make the most use out of modern 3D printing. However, modern 3D printing is now fast being implemented in various entertainment industries, including the film and game industry.

Of course, if you can make money off a service, plenty of businesses will appear to take advantage of that opportunity. Now, 3D printing is an industry itself. Many businesses have started specializing in 3D printing services for people who want 3D models printed for their own purposes. These services are incredibly useful for people who don't have access to 3D printers, which is, perhaps, most of the consumer market nowadays.

It's because consumer-ready 3D printers aren't yet ready for the market. Most 3D printers made for consumers, the few that exist, are too complex, haphazard or expensive for consumers to use them. Most of the best 3D printers on the market are those that are made for commercial purposes. Of course, consumers can access these printers through a 3D printing service.

The Impracticality of 3D Printing?

While 3D printing is blossoming into a viable technology, some aspects are still considered impracticable for many people.

One of the most common examples involves 3D printer files. Most people can't feasibly create these files from scratch. To circumvent those issues, many free and premium websites have started sharing 3D printer files for people who need 3D models for printing or those who want a base for creating their own files.

While people can use these files as a base to create their own content, most consumers would rather have a ready-made file for printing. That's where the impracticality comes in. Most people wouldn't know where to find these files unless they searched for them. So, until such resources become mainstream, that will remain an issue for consumers and 3D printing.

STL Preparation for 3D Printing

Of course, even if you do find 3D printing files, some of them might be subject to hidden mistakes and errors that might complicate the printing process. That's where a certain module may come in.

SpaceClaim Engineer's STL Prep module helps prepare models for 3D printing. It offers a single solution that efficiently repairs any apparent issues with STL and CAD files, in addition to safely modifying them for later use in a 3D printer.
