000 immigrants

A few days back, Canada has announced its 2021-2023 immigration level plans. The government is all set to break the history of immigration.

In these three years, Canada will strive to welcome the following level of new permanent residents:

  • 2021: 401,000 immigrants
  • 2022: 411,000 immigrants
  • 2023: 421,000 immigrants

In 1913, Canada welcomed over 400,000 immigrants. And since then, it has never come near to this figure again.

Where are new immigrants settling?

According to the Statscan statement, the Plain provinces such as Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba are becoming more famous destinations than ever before. In the past year, 27.9 percent of new immigrants lived in one of these provinces. Alberta, which received 57,384 people, ranked as the second most attractive destination for immigrants of all the provinces. Manitoba (17,238) and Saskatchewan (15,006) also increased their immigration numbers.

Ontario, as always, remained the most prevalent destination province, with 37.3 percent of all immigrants landing there. Meanwhile, Quebec welcomed 55,164 new immigrants. So as you can see, numbers don't lie. All these numbers are gathered from many sources like immigration consultants and others.

In this blog, we’ll be discussing top reasons why Canada is allowing foreigners to settle down in the country:

  1. Canada embraces multiculturalism and newcomers

In the 1970s, under the administration of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, Canada authoritatively adopted a policy to encourage multiculturalism, and ever since it’s been a fundamental part of the Canadian identity.

Canada has the highest immigration rates per capita amid the developed nations. In 2018 alone, Canada welcomed nearly 310,000 immigrants into the country. 57% of those immigrants arrived as experienced workers. The rest were considered as refugees or people who joined their families already living in Canada. Collectively, 22.3% of the Canadian population classifies as a visible minority and 21.9% as foreign-born.

Canada is also acknowledged for its ‘mosaic’ approach to multiculturalism, where people from all religions live in harmony, while also sustaining their cultural heritage and spiritual practices.

Canada’s urban centres such as Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver are especially diverse, and home to several ethnic neighbourhoods. In Toronto, which is commonly referred to as ‘the most multicultural city in the world,’ more than half of the population recognizes as a visible minority.

2. Canada is the most inclusive countries in the world

Past being multicultural, Canada is acknowledged for its diversity and inclusivity in other ways. The country has powerful support for the LGBTQ community. In 2005, Canada became the 4th nation in the world to legalize same-sex marriage and the leading outside of Europe. A 2017 poll found that Canadians support same-sex marriage with 74%. Canada is also officially certified June Pride Month in 2015 and treats the annual Toronto Pride Parade, which is one of the world’s greatest LGBTQ celebrations.

Women also have a great voice in Canada. When Justin Trudeau was chosen Prime Minister in 2015, he pledged to a cabinet with 50/50 representation between genders. Basic women’s rights such as voting, access to birth control and abortion are long-established and preserved.

3. Canada has the 10th largest economy in the world

Canada strikes above its influence when it comes to the world economy. Despite having the 38th largest population in the world, Canada has the 10th largest economy, with an output of 1.6 trillion or $48,100 per capita. Canada overtook Russia in 2015 to hold the 10th position.

Though Canada is renowned for its abundance of natural resources, Canada’s economy is actually gradually service-oriented, with 78.9% of Canadians working in a service-related job, according to Statistics Canada. Though the goods-producing sector is comparatively small in comparison to the service sector, Canada’s manufacturing and oil and petroleum enterprises have experienced small but constant annual growth over the last several years.

4. Canada’s education system is world-class

Canada spends more on education per capita than any other industrialized country in the world and has been named the most educated country in the world. Canada’s K-12 public schooling system is considered one of the best in the world. Canada is also home to some of the world’s top universities, with McGill University, McMaster University, the University of Toronto, and the University of British Columbia ranking among the world’s top 100 universities.

5. Canada’s tech business is growing quickly

The tech sector is Canada’s fastest-growing industry, which spells great things for Canada’s fate, as the need for tech experts continues to boom. Government support and financing in Canada’s tech industry are powerful, as well, with awards and other tools open to help Canadian startups. Canada is swiftly becoming a destination of opportunity for employers seeking experienced tech talent.

Toronto leads the pack, with big names like Shopify, Salesforce,Google’s Sidewalk Labs, and Facebook setting up shop in the city. While Toronto receives a lot of attention for its rich tech talent, it’s not alone. Other Canadian cities are drawing in tech talent, too.

6. Canadians enjoy access to universal healthcare

Canada’s universal healthcare system was fostered in the 1960s. Under the program, every region or territory in Canada has a healthcare plan which offers all residents consistent access to medical services, without paying out of pocket for healthcare services such as clinic visits or access to doctors.

7. Canada is extremely safe

Canada typically ranks among the top 10 most protected nations in the world on numerous polls and indexes. As per the Global Peace Index of 2018, Canada was positioned as the 6th friendliest nation in the world. The index shows a variety of factors including homicide rates, militarization, incarceration rates, diplomatic relations, political stability, ongoing conflicts, and terrorism impact, among others.

Canada is well established for extreme gun control and a relatively nonviolent approach to foreign diplomacy.
