Realme 8 5G Review: Key Features and Specifications
Posted: Jun 10, 2021
Realme has been surprisingly doing well and had a pretty impressive rise in India over a relatively short span of time. This company is quite competitive and currently has a vast portfolio of smartphones. Their growth is quite good, but I think they need to focus more on their approach towards the launches. Realme has launched the phone in Thailand ahead of the scheduled launch in India on 22 April. Realme’s latest phone is Realme 8 5G, which comes shortly after the non-5G variants, and its starting price is Rs 14,999. Realme 8 5G a solid phone having a new dimensity. According to Realme, they will be intelligently switching from 4G to 5G with the two SIM card slots.
Here we have reviewed the Realme 8 5G:
Reviews on its design
The design is quite different from the other Realme variants. Realme 8 5G is slightly thicker. And weighing 185 grams and is 8.5mm thick, not that heavy. They have opted for a glossy back panel that means be ready to see a lot of fingerprints and smudges, but it seems that the phone is slippery. Realme has given a case with the phone, which will be useful for a lot of people. The phone is not that bulky and is easy to hold. Fingerprint sensors can be customized, and it allows the smooth touch.
Realme has launched this phone with 5G connectivity. This budget phone has introduced the 5G connectivity that means Realme has made a few compromises. The buttons on the Realme 8 have a pretty good standard and have good feedback. At the bottom of the phone, we have the speaker, 3.5 headphone jack, USB Type-C port and have two nano SIMs and a microSD card in the SIM tray.
As per reports, one of the company representatives told us, A dragon trail glass is used in the Realme 8. It is based on Android 11 and looks very similar to the previous versions. The designs are subtle and smart. Realme surprisingly gives only a single speaker placed at the bottom, which produces a relatively crisp sound as compared to the other smartphones in the market, which are giving the dual speakers but here in Realme 8, 5G gives only one speaker. Realme doesn’t have a super AMOLED display; instead of that, you can get a 6.5-inch LCD display with full HD+ resolution.
Having the AMOLED display, Realme 85G gets the 90 Hz refresh rate and makes the usability better. A smooth display is provided while scrolling and switching between the apps. The display is all in all smooth and bright, but the colors aren’t accurately reproduced. It has also given WideVine L1 support which makes watching HD content enjoyable. The display has a punch-hole design for the selfie camera.

Realme 85G is based on Android 11, having a triple camera with the super nightscape mode along with AI-based filters and a 16 MP selfie camera. Other than that, Realme 8 is available in three RAM variants, all having the same 128GB of UFS 2.1 Storage, dual-band WiFi ac, Bluetooth 5.1, and an array of sensors and satellite navigation support.
Realme 8 Performance
Realme 8 5G is showing reliable performance, good battery life. Realme 85G runs on Realme UI and looks clean, and you won’t see ads like Xiaomi’s MIUI. The bottom speaker produces a crisp sound. The fingerprint sensor is very fast at authentication, having a good battery life. And allows fast charging in 65 minutes. Supports are available as USB type-C fast charging. The phone is lagging out in some areas, which is disappointing. Not recommended for gamers. It will get warm quickly and will affect the gaming performance of the gamer. The sensors used in this phone are completely different.
Camera performance: The rear camera is similar to the real 7 with a triple camera, 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 2-megapixel monochrome camera, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. With that, you will get a 16-megapixel selfie camera. Despite the triple camera, the image quality is poorer than the Realme7. With the improved AI features, it will prefer more natural colors. Nightscape mode has helped users to get low-light photos with the ultra-wide camera. This model of Realme can record video at up to 4k 30fps with the average video quality. Realme 85G Phone tries to fix the camera quality at 1080p but ends up doing worse. The camera works well during the day, but at night, the quality drops down. It will have various filters. A bit disappointing camera experience, though.
Battery life:
Realme 8 5G has a solid battery life with a 5000mAh capacity which easily lasts for an entire 24-hours. The battery is really good and doesn’t drain quickly. Realme 8 5G has provided an 18W fast charger, and it will charge the phone within 2 hours. But at the same time, the Realme has downgraded it from 30W in Realme 8 to 18W in the Realme 8 5G, and it seems that Realme 8 5G has slow charging as compared to the other older version as well to other smartphones.
All in all, it’s a good deal at an affordable price! Some major differences are the change in the chipset, decent look, excellent battery life, and misses out some features with the average camera quality. We like the features of the phone and hope you too like them. We highly recommend this phone for you!
