In recent years, True-Wireless earphones have gained massive popularity in the market of audio devices. It has become the talk of the town, and given the active and busy lifestyle of the current generation, True-Wireless earbuds are being preferred by the most. So, many companies to rank at the top of preferences are competing and launching new Earbuds while providing features like Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) at a very aggressive price segment.

Huawei has done the same; they have released their FreeBuds 4i with ANC and other significant features at a low and appealing price.

It is not the first time that Huawei has released mid-range earbuds, but the previous generations could not interest the buyers and somewhat failed. However, the new Huawei 4i seems to have hit the mark among the buyers, and their balance of Price, Features, and Sound Quality has helped them with it.

FreeBuds Availability and Price

As of now, FreeBuds 4i is the most affordable true wireless earphones by Huawei. It is available in three different color variants Red, Ceramic Black, and Ceramic White. FreeBuds 4i is available for £79 in the UK and €99 in the European market. That’s less than premium earbuds like the Huawei FreeBuds Pro and Apple AirPods Pro, but still less than mid-range ANC earbuds like the Soundcore Liberty Air 2 Pro and Oppo Enco W51.

Design

Compared to their conic-shaped predecessors, the FreeBuds 3i, the FreeBuds 4i have a more streamlined AirPods Pro-like in-ear design. Long stems and silicone tips smooth out the curves on the buds, ensuring a comfortable and secure fit.

The FreeBuds 4i provides a secure and firm fit to keep them in the place to not fall off on movement. Extra three sizes of Silicon tips are provided in the box; take out those and try out which one fits best to get a cozy fit and get the most out of the ANC.

The charging case has been redesigned with a new oval shape and a flat back for compactness (don’t worry, it will fit in your pocket just fine).

Controls and Features

To control playback, Huawei has provided capacitive sensors on the back of the buds. Controls are as follows: Double-tap to pause and play, Long-tap to switch between the three Active Noise Cancellation Presets, I.e., ANC on, ANC off, and Awareness mode.

The FreeBuds 4i is water-resistant to a depth of 1 meter, so you may wear them in the rain and not worry if you accidentally splash water on them. It is also good news for fitness enthusiasts since they can wear them during sweaty workouts without fear of water damage.

Sound Quality

In terms of sound quality, Huawei has done a tremendous job with FreeBuds 4i compared to the previous FreeBuds 3i. The FreeBuds 4i 10mm dynamic drivers deliver neutral tones with well-balanced high and low frequencies. It results in a wholly delightful and reliable listening experience. The only niggles are the bass and low frequencies, which aren’t amplified enough.

Active Noise Cancellation

The ANC works surprisingly well for a mid-range FreeBuds 4i, which is quite rare to see.

It won’t eliminate our noise entirely, but it will significantly reduce it. The outside world is still audible but not loud enough to disturb your concentration. While on busy highways and congested settings, noise reduction comes in handy during calls where we can be assured that our voice is clear to individuals on the other end.

Battery Life of Huawei FreeBuds 4i

The case of FreeBuds 4i comes with a 215mAh battery capacity, which Huawei claims to give you 20 hours of playtime. On a single charge, buds will give you a battery life of 10 hours, and for that, you’ll have to listen on a low volume, disable ANC, and use the AAC codec. ANC decreases the battery life by 25%.

Final Review

They look excellent, have a secure and comfortable fit, and give good audio quality, making them suitable for short and extended sessions. The main blemish is the bass performance and absence of low frequencies, which are audible but lack a satisfying impact. These earphones are better suited to people who prefer mainstream, classic, rock, and R&B music. Active Noise Cancellation works decently, and the battery life is the strongest point of these earphones.

Should You Buy It or Not?

So, if you’re someone who is looking for truly wireless earbuds that are hassle-free to use, have a good battery life, and offer a good fit, then Huawei FreeBuds 4i should be your choice. But if you are looking for premium audio quality, adequate ANC, or have an iPhone (Huawei’s AI life app isn’t compatible with iOS), we would suggest you look for something else.
