As a fleet manager, or in the role of a driver for that matter, you know that your drivers are at the heart of your business. They provide service to customers and you want to ensure they maintain the high standards you've established for them. But there are other issues you have to worry about as well: unsafe driving, tired drivers, distracted drivers and drunk drivers can all contribute to your vehicles not being safe enough to protect the valuable cargo you use on a daily basis.

So how do you address these issues? Most modern fleet camera systems offer a range of solutions that are designed to help you monitor and deter bad and risky driving habits among your drivers. With these systems you can also track the progress and behavior of your drivers through GPS. By monitoring how they drive and when, you can see exactly what actions are contributing to accidents and roadblocks. Some fleet managers implement these strategies themselves so it's worth considering a step-by-step approach.

One of the key ways fleet camera systems monitor drivers is by using a 360-degree GPS tracking system. This means that not only does the system tell you if a specific driver is breaking the speed limit, for example, but it will also let you see exactly where that driver is going during their daily commute. This allows you to not only make sure your drivers are maintaining proper speeds, but it also shows you how certain actions can be mitigating the risk of accidents or roadblocks. For instance, if your drivers are zooming along at fifty miles an hour down the highway in a thirty mile per hour zone, you'll want to take note of this behavior and take steps to stop it.

If a company is serious about using fleet camera systems to monitor drivers and reduce insurance premiums, then they should invest in dash cams. There are a wide variety of dash cams available, and many of them can be easily integrated into a system. Some dash cams are hard-wired into motor vehicles, while others are simply built into the dashboard. These are much easier to integrate into a monitoring system, and since these vehicles tend to drive longer distances than sedans or SUVs, they can be more helpful in monitoring driver activity.

Of course, you don't have to choose dash cams or motor vehicles to use fleet tracking. Many trucking and delivery businesses use small cameras mounted on traffic sign poles. These cameras can often be identified as speed monitors or red light cameras, which means drivers can get tickets for running red lights or speeding when they are required to yield. With the addition of these cameras, however, the risk of getting ticketed or being found guilty of speeding becomes less likely. The cameras help to manage risk, and they give driver's another tool to help manage their time. It's almost like having a little internal manager, who oversees the crew and reports directly to you.

A good fleet tracking system will allow you to view all cameras with a clear view of the roadway. If the camera is mounted somewhere hidden from view, you'll need a separate view model that allows you to see what's going on. This lets you work more efficiently by assigning different tasks to individual cameras, rather than creating a computer system of cameras that don't really do anything. You also want to be sure that your cameras are both visible and easy to see at night, whether they're responding to any traffic or not.

Some fleet managers have noticed that accidents are sometimes solved the same way even when the weather is poor. If the visibility on the road is poor, drivers will usually slow down to make it safer to cross. This can lead to an accident because the drivers may try to beat the weather to make it to the other side of the road. A good camera system allows you to look at the area to see if there's anything that would cause a problem, such as undergrowth or fog. By using a computer program, you can see if the traffic pattern would create an accident and then eliminate it from your list of possibilities.

When you consider your office team, drivers and managers, along with all the innocent drivers you have covered in the course of your business operations, you should make sure your fleet is protected by the best technology. Cameras are one of the best ways to do this, along with the latest video capture equipment. This ensures that everything captured is used to its fullest potential.
