Choosing the best web host is a daunting task for anyone who is looking to host their website on the internet. There are hundreds of companies offering hosting services. It can be extremely confusing for the average webmaster. So, how do you find one that is best for you? The bottom line is: you don't. It all depends on what your needs are as a website owner.

The most important consideration to make when selecting a new web hosting company is their speed. The better the speed, the better off for your site. Nowadays, web performance is getting very important and quickly becoming a requirement for new websites. So, here's a list of the top 10 best shared web hosting providers (out of 40+ we've tested) that offer fast reliable performance for an affordable price. It should be easy to see how each one ranks in terms of speed and cost.

When we first started testing, we found that Host Gator came pretty close to being the undisputed king of hosting companies. With so many great features and a low price, they're a serious contender for the title of "the cheapest". However, after testing quite a few other plans, we finally decided to put them behind and write a review based on our experience with the company. Here's our verdict:

A couple of months ago, Aussies were looking at the best shared web hosting companies. We were impressed with Aussies, because they have great customer support and offer tons of features. However, their pricing was a major turn off to us. Their basic plan was extremely cheap, but their data plan sucked. Their web servers were ancient and unreliable. They also had just about zero bandwidth, which meant they had problems with loading websites quickly and consistently.

Bluehost has been trying to change their reputation since our last verdict. They've finally upgraded their servers and now offer a more reasonable price. They've also added new features such as cPanel and zapper that improve website performance and reliability. And while they lost our vote for the best shared hosting plan, they did win our verdict for ease of use. Bluehost is very user friendly and provides plenty of useful tools.

While we liked Aussies' price and reliability, we were less excited about their lack of bandwidth. We would have liked to have seen more bandwidth, especially considering the fact that most Aussies are small business owners with just one or two websites. Hostgator offers just enough bandwidth to handle a normal website, which is perfectly fine. But if you're a smaller site with a limited number of pages, it can be draining having to wait for each new page to load. With Hostgator, you can't depend on having a problem with loading images or other documents.

Another factor we thought was important was the level of customer support provided by Hostgator. The level of customer support is definitely better than Aussies, but still not good enough. When you need help with your site, the customer support usually does not help very much. If you have any issues, it usually requires technical support to sort out your problem. In our experience, it usually takes several days to get help with a problem with our account.

Overall, we thought that Bluehost and Hostgator were average hosting services. Their pricing and overall service are both decent, but their lack of bandwidth and support leaves something to be desired. If you have a small business, we highly recommend Bluehost or Hostgator, but if you're looking for an average hosting solution that can handle many basic sites, we suggest looking into Aussies. They're less expensive, and they're more reliable. You can even get a basic plan with unlimited bandwidth and domain name space for less than half the price of HostGator's basic plan!
