It goes beyond saying that to get the desired performance from your excavator, you would need to first buy the right machine. If you are in the UAE, then you can explore options from all the top global brands. One of the most trusted brands in UAE, is SEM. It is a wholly owned subsidy of Caterpillar and it is one of the brands that combines affordability and efficiency. So, if you are looking to make a smart choice, you can surely consider them.

1. Inspect the Jobsite and Level Slopes

Before lifting with compact excavators, the operator should examine the area around the excavator to ensure that there is nothing that is above or below the machine that would cause interference. When you are working on a slope, try to level it properly before starting the work.

If you can’t level the work are, then you can position the excavator with the blade downhill and lowered. You should also avoid working with the tracks being across the slope or swinging the bucket in the downhill direction. Keep the boom at the center and the load as low to the ground as possible for maximum stability. You should avoid travelling on a slop that is greater than 25 degrees.

2. Understand the Lifting Capacity of the Machine

All operator should understand the lifting capacity of the machine so to extract the maximum performance from the machine. The lifting capacity depends on two factors: Hydraulic limitations and tipping limitations.

Hydraulic limited refers to the fact that the machine is governed by the hydraulic power to lift a load. On the other hand, the tipping limited means that there is a point at which the excavator begins to lift off the ground when lifting a load.

Most manufacturers calculate how much weight they can safely lift at various heights and distances from the centreline of the machine. Based on that, they create lift charts which should be studied to get the desired performance.

3. Interpret the Lifting Charts

You need to follow the lifting charts with due importance. There might be several lift charts for an excavator, based on the boom length, the arm length, the size of the counterweight, and the track-shoe width. If they are including bucket size, they will also indicate the weight of the bucket. If it’s not there, you need to know how much weight is there at the end of the machine. In most cases, this includes the weight of the coupler or bucket, the lifting apparatus and weight of the material or item being moved. An important thing to keep in mind is that things should not exceed beyond 87 percent of the hydraulic lift capacity of the machine.

These are some of the things that you should keep in mind when you are looking to lift with compact excavators in UAE or anywhere else, for that matter. Get in touch with the right dealer and get the right machine to get the desired performance
