How to Becoming a Buddha in Everyday Life

Buddhism, the world’s fourth-largest religion, was founded by an Indian religious, spiritual preacher and philosopher Siddhartha Gautam (Lord Buddha) between the 5th & 6th Centuries B.C. Buddhism pro-founded basic lessons to be followed in one’s life to minimise their miseries and happiness maximised during their journey in life. One can inculcate the teachings and values taught by Lord Buddha in their daily lives and enjoy life patiently and happily. Following the under-given practical application of Buddha’s teachings shall help practice Buddha in everyday life.

Generation of Positive Motivation:

Like Gautam Buddha, one should get up in the morning to remember the Almighty God. Then, one should sit for a while and generate positive motivation in oneself by deciding the things to be done that day i.e. how they can help benefit society, how they can be helpful to others in attaining happiness. After this, one should start one’s day. It will help us to reinforce good qualities and enable ourselves to introspect and respond positively, wisely and very patiently, as Lord Gautam Buddha did in his time.

Meditation:

Meditation is one of the main preachings of Lord Buddha. Accordingly, one should set up a daily meditation practice session wherein one can meditate, chant prayers/mantras, connect with the Almighty and show one reverence towards him. This meditation shall steer your energy in a positive direction; nourish you spiritually, and help you to attain the targets set for the day and life. Meditation shall help you in handling all situations positively despite being in tough times.

Practicing Dharma During Work:

After meditating, one has to go to his workplace to do his other part of karma and earn a livelihood. But while being at your workplace, one should continuously be vigilant regarding his promises made during the meditation session and try to help people/society in whatever way. There we should show full solidarity to our work and execute our portion of the job sincerely and honestly while being polite to others and helping the needy to the maximum extent. One should be following the principle of Compassion and Sharing with others and thus practice Dharma while doing Karmas.

Free Yourself From Attachments:

Buddhism has emphasised being self-reliant and not to be relying on external factors for attaining happiness. It further stresses that we should be doing our karma very sincerely and honestly, without being interdependent. People in the world shall come and go, and nothing is permanent in life – be it relations, assets etc. The more you desire, the more you suffer in life. Hence, we should not be running around for attaining worldly gains and rather accept life with enthusiasm, peace, contentment and happiness. We should not be emotionally attached to anything. Death/losses are a part of life & one should accept these situations no matter what. In short, one should walk unattached & untouched by any external attachments in life.

Understanding Your Life:

Progress and happiness in one’s life come through understanding, and changing your life is in your hands. It would help if you understood the various aspects of life and then trend through your life wisely, patiently, bravely and understandingly through your Karmas. As taught in Buddhism, the key is to conquer your ego & become a better person. It shall fetch happiness in your life. One can simply buy an antique Buddha idol online & meditate 10 minutes a day, leaving behind any worldly pleasures; it shall help you give direction to your life.

Resist Anger and Impatience:

Buddhism teaches us patience which allows us to keep ego and anger away to lead a joyful life. It propagates that anger and impatience do not lead you to anything positive. Rather, it hinders the quality of life. Furthermore, any situation can be faced by meditating in front of the Buddha idol & practising patience.

Offering Food and Compassion to Others:

Another best practice is to help us remember our motivation and become beautiful human being by offering our food before eating. One should eat dignified to nourish the body with the correct quantity, sufficient for one’s survival. We eat to live and not live to eat. Even donating food to the underprivileged is also the order of the day. Similarly, Buddhism taught people to practice patience and conquer hate with love and passion. There are many facets of one’s life where you meet different types of people. Hence, by practising patience, cool and wisdom, you may win over them, convert their hatred to love and keep your integrity intact.

Reviewing the Day:

Buddhism emphasises the fact that the past is already over and the future is yet to come. Since the present moment matters the most, at the end of the day, one should sit in front of the Buddha statue in a quiet room, review the moments of the day and analyse if you were able to follow the teachings of Buddhism and where you failed to do so. The reviewing of the day shall enable you to know where you unknowingly failed in maintaining anger, greed, jealousy etc. It would allow you to enlighten yourself and prepare you for the next days to come.
