5 Quiet Moments You Need to Create to Savor the Day
Posted: Aug 11, 2021
Many of us live our lives bouncing from one activity to the next without clear direction or thought on what it means for us to live a meaningful life.
So today, I challenge you stop and notice your surroundings. Observe what brings you true joy, and get a little more present in the ordinary moments of your day.
Here are five moments you can use to do these things. Slow down. Reflect. And take in the beauty of a moment well lived.
*See more simple pleasures that bring you joy HERE
1. Take a nature walk
Go outside and wander on a trail. Notice the color of the leaves, the song of the birds, and the way the trail feels under your feet. There’s something about nature that’s good for the soul, and this simple activity could be 5 minutes or 60. Either way, it can bring you into the moment like few activities can.
2. Meditate
Next, take 10-20 minutes to meditate in a quiet place. I love using a guided app or a free timer to keep me on track. Once you sit, focus on your breath or a mantra and observe the way your mind works. Bring yourself back whenever you wander, and enjoy the feeling of getting to know your inner self.
3. Sit outside with your coffee or tea
How often do you enjoy your own backyard? Tomorrow morning, take your mug outside and sit amongst nature as it wakes up for the day. Maybe you’ll even catch a glimpse of the coming sunrise. Not only does this give you a moment of reflection for a great day ahead, but it sets the tone for the kind of day you want to have.
4. Journal
Find a simple journal that you love and spend a few minutes every day writing in it. Record your goals, dreams, blessings, emotions, and even your stream of thoughts. You’ll find that by using a journal on a consistent basis, you have a MUCH clearer view into your mind and the things that bring you true happiness.
5. Time Block Your Day
Finally, in order to be more present, use strategic block scheduling. Decide which times of the day are only for your family, which times are for deep, focused work, and which times are for self-care. Now, be brutal on how well you follow it. With time, you’ll find that you are much more able to be in the present when you have a structure that supports it. Take away the multitasking as much as possible, and you’ll have more moments to notice the smile of your friend or the feel of a soft breeze.
In Conclusion
Our lives are so short in the grand scheme of things. Don’t waste your moments being busy just being busy. Make your days meaningful and slow down enough to enjoy the people, places, and pursuits that give you pure joy. Isn’t that what life is all about?
And if nothing else, make time for stillness to reflect on life.
