St Lucia is a stunning Caribbean island and any holiday here will be a visit to a true natural paradise, made even more special if you stay somewhere like the renowned East Winds. St Lucia is one of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean and there are so many things to see and do here, the highlight of which are the spectacular beaches. But why choose this island over any of the others? Here are just a few reasons.
Stunning Scenery
It's not just the beaches that make this island one of the most beautiful places in the Caribbean to spend a holiday. It is also home to a host of other attractions, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site the Pitons, which is one of the must-see attractions and very accessible if you're staying somewhere like the East Winds. St Lucia has long been popular with holidaymakers with a taste for adventure, and you can hike to the top of the Pitons if you're feeling particularly energetic.
You can also visit Pigeon Island National Park, which is a beautiful area just perfect for hiking and exploring. Designated a National Landmark, it is home to historic attraction Fort Rodney, which dates back to the 18th century.
Exciting Attractions
The island is also home to another astounding natural attraction - Soufriere Volcano. Billed as "the world's only drive through volcano", you can drive right up to it and see the signs of activity up close and personal - including the boiling mud and steam vents. You can even take a dip in the renowned therapeutic waters.
Fun Activities
You will have plenty of activities to choose from when you stay somewhere well located on the island like East Winds. St Lucia is home countless beautiful beaches, and you may be tempted to sunbathe all day, but there are also other activities to consider.
One of the most popular is diving. There are many dive sites just off the island, including sites like the Waiwinette Freighter, a wreck dive, Anse La Raye, a drift dive full of interesting formations and boulders, and Anse Chastanet, a reef dive.
Trekking is also very popular all over the island. While most of the trekking opportunities are inland, there are some incredible landscapes to explore.
You can also arrange to go on a whale watching tour if you stay on the island between May to November when humpback whales can be sighted in the surrounding waters.

There are a number of historic places to visit around the island as well, with Castries being the most important. You will find many attractions here including Fort Charlotte, The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, City Library and beaches like Vigie Beach and Choc Beach.
You can also visit Gros Islet (a place that is very popular with tourists) and Soufrière in the southwest, which is the old capital of the island. Here you can visit an old estate and see what life used to be like.
