LG's flagship smartphones do not remain in the spotlight for long after their launch, as many of their competitors do. On the other hand, OnePlus and Samsung have dramatically increased their audience's mindshare. With the LG G8X ThinQ, the South Korean company tries its hand at making its own foldable smartphone. In addition to its regular smartphone abilities, the device has an add-on display case that can double the screen area. G8X ThinQ is made in India for the first time, and it is priced at Rs. 49,999 plus display case. Are you about to buy LG mobile phones in Coimbatore? Testing has been conducted to determine whether it works or not.

Display and processor

The LG G8X ThinQ follows the same design language as its predecessors. The display of this smartphone is sandwiched between a glass panel and a metal frame. Smartphones like this one are tall and chubby. A 6.4-inch OLED FullVision display is on the front, and a tiny water droplet notch is located at the top. The sides of the phone have thin bezels, but the bottom is thicker.

A power button is conveniently located on the right side of LG's device, which can easily be reached. On the left side you will find the volume buttons and the Google Assistant button. This will come in very handy if you use Google Assistant very often. However, we couldn't find any way to remap this button in the Settings application.

On the bottom, LG G8X ThinQ has a 3.5mm headphone jack, a primary microphone, a loudspeaker, and a USB Type-C port. At the top, you will only find the SIM tray. There are few smartphones with flush-mounted cameras, but LG's G8X ThinQ has one. In a time when most phones have protruding camera modules, LG manages to give this one a clean look. The back of the phone has a curved glass surface, making it comfortable to hold since both sides are curved. The surface makes the phone very slippery and prone to smudges. An even greater challenge was using it on sloped surfaces.

Dual Screen Case

G8X ThinQ comes bundled with LG's dual-display case that has two screens built in. First, there is a tiny monochrome light on the outside that lights up when you receive Raise the device to receive notifications. You can also see the battery level, date, and time, along with pending notifications for the apps. LG opted for a mirror finish for the front of the case, which makes it difficult to see the front display when the phone isn't in use. Also, it is quite easy to pick up smudges. There is a slight offset in the shiny front panel to account for the hinge on the case.

You will see the second display inside the case if you open it up. Similarly, it features a 6.4-inch OLED display with a waterdrop notch, to match the phone's screen. In this case, the notch is pointless since it houses nothing, and it looks like LG used the same display panel as the phone's display. In this case, the displays are not at the same level at any point, more like a step between them. The secondary display can be switched off by flipping the case lid completely around.

Software and specifications

With 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, the LG G8X ThinQ is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC. As a result of the addition of a heat pipe, LG's processor stays cool even when it's being loaded. The configuration on offer consists of only one option. As a result, we would have preferred to see the current Snapdragon In view of the overall features and capabilities of this smartphone, the Snapdragon 855 SoC is acceptable.

When viewing content outdoors, the 6.4-inch OLED display gets bright enough and has excellent viewing angles. Besides dual 4G and VoLTE, the G8X ThinQ includes Bluetooth 5, dual-band Wi-Fi AC, NFC, GPS, and the usual sensors. LG has equipped the phone with a 4,000mAh battery and a USB Type-C port for fast charging.

Battery Performance and life

LG's G8X boasts impressive performance thanks to its hardware. Neither lag nor stutter were noticed while using the phone. When multitasking and loading apps, the device was super smooth thanks to its 6GB of RAM. Even when running a completely different app on the secondary display, the device was still able to handle the load. However, we do not recommend running two heavy apps simultaneously, as this causes the device to warm up. Our testing also showed that the in-display fingerprint scanner was slow and inconsistent.

Multitasking was made easier with the second screen. On the LG G8s ThinQ, we were able to run two different apps simultaneously. You can also switch between the two screens using a three-finger gesture. You can spread a Web page across both displays with apps that support dual-screen mode. For instance, the preinstalled Whale Browser and Google Chrome let you do this.orks well, but a fat hinge between the two panels limits your uninterrupted viewing options.

Camera quality & Functions

The LG G8X ThinQ sticks to a dual camera setup instead of the four cameras or five cameras that are found on many smartphones these days. On the LG G8X ThinQ, the primary camera has a 12-megapixel sensor and an aperture of f/1.8. An f/2.4 aperture and a 130-degree field of view characterize the 13-megapixel wide-angle camera. There are multiple modes in the camera app, and you can also edit photos. Both photos and videos can be taken in manual mode. Furthermore, the dual-screen accessory can be turned into a viewfinder via a toggle. Easily catch shots from awkward angles when the device is folded. This mirrors the output of the primary screen.
