If your Netgear extender is unable to detect the 5GHz wireless network of your existing WiFi router or your wireless extender is intermittently losing the internet connection to the 5 GHz band, then try considering the wireless channel on your existing device.

  • First of all, you have to make sure that your range extender is plugged in closer to your existing WiFi router. Slow and sluggish internet speed can be caused by the improper placement of your WiFi devices.
  • Log in to your existing WiFi router interface.
  • Once you are logged in successfully, hit the Wireless option to access the Wireless Settings page of your device.
  • Now, beneath Wireless network (5GHz) search for the Channel.
  • If your existing WiFi router by default set to Auto or channel between 52-64 or 100-140, then it is recommended to change the channel between 36-48 or in between 149-161.
  • Once done, click on Apply.
  • Reconnect the Netgear extender to the 5GHz band and see whether the connectivity has improved or not.

Note: You might want to refresh your home WiFi network list in order to see your 5GHz router SSID (network name) in the available list of networks whose range you can extend.

Type mywifiext.net to setup WiFi Extender.

Moreover, if you were using the channel between the recommended ranges mentioned above, then you have to change the channel to something different in order to fix intermittent and discontinuous internet connections.

If you are still facing issues, update firmware to the latest version on your smart Netgear product.

  • Visit the official site of Netgear.
  • Type the model number of your device in the search box.
  • In case a drop-down menu is displayed on your home screen, select your model number and proceed further.
  • And if you do not see a drop-down menu, then make sure that you have entered the model number of your device correctly. On the other hand, you can also select a product category to browse for the model number of your product.
  • Click on Firmware and after that, on Software Downloads.
  • Next, under the Current Versions option, choose the firmware version that you wish to download. Once done, click on the Download button.
  • Unzip the downloaded file.
  • Run the.exe file and follow the simple on-screen instructions to update the latest version of firmware on your Netgear device.

Note: Do not interrupt the firmware update process in between.

If you are still facing issues, then without any delay ask our technicians for Netgear support.

Also, note this down that to get the continuous internet speed without the signal breakage, you might need a Netgear range extender.
