Serving an aging elderly is a very noble deed but at the same time it can be too hectic and exhausting and for this reason, family caregivers often start developing negative feelings or emotions towards the senior they are caring for.

Taking care of the seniors may become very exhaustive and time-consuming and in this course, the assigned caregiver or the family member who is taking care becomes frustrated and angry as they have to sacrifice their personal life. They are unable to take out time for their children and spouse.

Sometimes the health of the senior starts deteriorating despite best efforts from the caregiver and they feel frustrated and angry. Sometimes out of frustration the caregiver may start wishing that the senior member should pass away to end the suffering for everyone.

Sadness often engulfs the caregivers when they can understand that the seniors they are caring for are nearing Death and despite the best efforts nothing can be done or improved.

But dealing with the above-mentioned negative emotions is very much important for the caregivers as they need to have a positive mindset not only for leading a quality life for themselves but also for giving the best while taking care of the seniors. Today, I am going to share some tips on how to overcome the negative emotions while caregiving

Don’t keep negative emotions bottled up inside you. Share your feelings with your spouse or a close friend. Try to exercise daily. You can also meditate daily for some time to make your mind calm and relaxed.

Pen down your daily thoughts if you get some time. This will help to clear the burden of the negative emotions inside you. You can also read some spiritual books or writings to welcome positivity in your life.

It’s always better to take a break for some time and rejuvenate yourself. You can always ask a close friend or family member to step up into your shoes temporarily. Be honest with the person or the family members of that person about why you are taking a break and assure them that you will come back soon to take care of them. If no one trustworthy is available then discuss with the family members of the elderly to hire another professional caregiver for the time being. There are many elder care services in Kolkata that can be contacted to hire a caregiver to replace you for the time being.

These are some of the steps that you can implement in your real life to overcome negative emotions while caregiving.
