Kedarkantha is a spectacular summit trip suited for beginners, located near Govind Pashu Vihar National Park in Uttarakhand. The summit, which sits at an elevation of 3810 meters, provides spectacular 360-degree views of some of the most well-known Himalayan peaks in the Yamunotri and Gangotri ranges, including the Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, Black Peak, and Ranglana.

One of the reasons for the trek's popularity is the ascent to the summit. The paths of Kedarkantha combine all the intricacies and challenges of a summit trip, but on a much smaller scale, starting in the wee hours of the morning in cold temperatures, with lights lighting the way under breaking dawn.

This walk, which spans 20 kilometers over five days, is excellent for first-time trekkers due to the short distances to be covered each day. The walk starts in Sankri village, which is a popular starting place for several Uttarakhand hikes. Before reaching the first campground, Juda-ka-Taal, the trail from Sankri passes through dense Maple and Oak forests, crosses multiple wooden bridges, and crosses several streams.

The next day, the trek becomes more difficult as we approach the Kedarkantha Base Camp, which is 4 kilometers away. The trail winds its way through dense oak trees, with many clearings along the way.

Keep a watch out for Rhododendron trees, Chir Pine, Black Eagle, Golden Eagle, and many more species of flora and fauna. The Kedarkantha Base Camp provides panoramic views of steep snow-capped hills such as Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini, and Kalanag. From this vantage point, the snow-capped Kedarkantha Peak appears even closer, glowing brighter than the moon on most evenings.

The following day's climb to the summit is thrilling. This is the most difficult stretch of the Kedarkantha trek due to the steep slope, torrential winds, and freezing temperatures in the winter.

Eligibility: Is this a tour that would be good for you?

Beginners and experienced trekkers both can enjoy the Kedarkantha trek. It's an excellent place to start for those who are new to trekking. For first-timers, it can be a bit demanding. As a result, it is advised to maintain a high level of physical stamina and read widely. For the love of the scenery and walking, any experienced trekker would love to go on the Kedarkantha Trek.
