Road Trip Essentials for the Perfect Couple's Road Trip
Posted: Oct 08, 2021
How many times have you and your significant other made road trip plans that never panned out? For some reason or the other, road trips are tricky, so when you get the time to make this dream come true, we want you to get everything right. After all, the real joy of a road trip is in the journey more than the destination.
Unfortunately, we're still suffering from the aftereffects of the pandemic, and travel bans are still a thing. Traveling to another country may not be a feasible option as of yet, but you can still so head onto a road trip to spend some quality time with your beloved. Escape the troubles of this cruel world of online schooling and work from home and enjoy this weekend with a couple's retreat!
Exploring new things together is sure to make you grow fonder of your partner, but what if you two end up fighting in the confined space of your car? Not cool! Make use of these tips to have a fun-filled experience, maintaining the highs and canceling out all the lows that might occur:
Plan your trips ahead of timeThe idea of being spontaneous sounds romantic, but our life isn't a movie. So plan all your stops ahead of time. When you research ahead of time, the trip ends up being a lot more organized, and you don't end up arguing over directions. Now, you don't have to call in every stop for pre-booking, but you should know the distance and the preferred stops in between each locality.
Agree to the first priceWhen you've been cramped up in a car for hours, it's only natural that you'll want to stop for a while, get some rest, and possibly regain your energy with a decent meal. However, the motels, hotels, and restaurants you find on the highway can charge you crazy amounts for stuff you can get at the Dollar Tree!. But sometimes you just got to take it because a tired mind isn't the best at saving.
If you want to save up on the extra bit of cash, stock up on snacks. I always keep a couple of power bars in my glove compartment for instant re-energizing, so can you.
Map the gas stopsNothing ruins a road trip like running out of gas in the middle of nowhere. This doesn't just spoil the fun, it can be potentially dangerous too, especially if you're traveling with kids or pets. I suggest you map out all the gas stops on your trip and keep a backup for emergencies.
Traveling in your own carYou may argue that you're very comfortable driving your car, but when you have to drive for hours, you may be forced to change that claim. Plus, since you might be exploring uncharted terrain, your car may suffer a few bruises, which could cost another handful.
Rent a carMaybe rent a car instead? Now, you could have to spend an extra bit of money on renting a car, but it would save you the trouble of having to run to the mechanic afterward. Plus, rental companies offer roadside services, which could come in handy if the car breaks down.
Bring a mapWe know it's the 21st century, and each one of you has a smartphone, a power bank, a charging cable, or other gadgets. However, to your luck, you could still end up with a dead battery or lose reception. So, the wisest decision is to go old school, carry a map with you to keep you from taking the wrong turn!
Pack The EssentialsBefore you set off on this voyage, you want to make sure you have all the essentials you could need. If you have to, head to the biggest grocery store in town, go aisle by aisle to remind yourself of all the things you could want on a road trip.
Keep The Music System CloseImagine this: you're on the road with the love of your life, with nothing but wind brushing past your skin; wouldn't it be great to listen to music? The radio is great if you wanna go old school, but you could end up listening to straight-up static. So, make a playlist of your favorite songs before you depart on your trip.
See Worthwhile ThingsOf course, we want to stop to see everything, but is it possible? No. You'll run out of time and be off schedule, and before you know it, the whole experience would go south. Before heading out, make sure your travel plans include all the places you must see. The rest? Maybe some other time; until then, enjoy what you can.
The Pit StopBut for everywhere you do, stop for a breather along the trip, take a deep breath, stretch out your legs and walk around for a bit to switch your mood for the better. Also, if you aren't the one driving, don't suggest the 'no stop' rule; driving for long hours on end is tiring, burdensome, and makes you want to quit before you've reached the final destination.
