Bring a Kitchen and Dining Room

Yes, you can. A mobile cooking station can do nearly anything that your stovetop can, so why not bring along a few pots and pans and make some real food? And if you’re going to do that, bring a folding table and a few chairs. There’s no reason to try to balance your plates on your knees while you get smoke in your eyes at the campfire. A disposable tablecloth is a nice addition, too.

Bring an Air Mattress—a Good One

Air mattresses have improved a great deal over the years, and you can easily find one that will keep you comfy. Of course, in addition to the air mattress, remember the tools to inflate it and a power source for them. Spending a few hours blowing up an air mattress is anything but luxurious.

Bring a Cot

Why not? You can have an air mattress and avoid sleeping on the ground, too. Just make sure that your combination is good and stable; the last thing you need is to go sliding out of bed in the middle of the night.

Bring Blankets

Whoever made the rule that you have to sleep in a sleeping bag when you camp didn’t understand anything about comfort or about making your tent look inviting. A blanket and a set of sheets can really spruce up your outdoor suite, and they’ll feel a thousand times better to crawl under at night. One caveat—if it’s going to be chilly, you might still need that sleeping bag.

Bring a Bathroom

If there aren’t bathroom facilities where you’re going, then you’ll need to bring some, or at least the closest approximation thereof. The good news is that there are convenient, innovative gadgets designed to cover just about everything your bathroom does (except flush, of course). You can get a portable toilet, which saves you from the indignity of squatting. There’s nothing whatsoever luxurious about squatting, after all.

You can even get an outdoor shower—with hot water! These solar powered beauties use very simple technology. The water is stored in a black rubber of plastic tank which heats up quickly when left in the sun. The shower is then hung up with the tank above the shower head. You’ll have an operational shower until the tank runs dry—gravity does all the work.

An outdoor portable sink is another must-have. You have no idea how many times you’re going to want to wash your hands while camping. Outdoor portable sinks do not need any plumbing. There are self-contained units with fresh water and waste water tanks located conveniently in the sink cabinet. The foot pump model features cold water and there is no need for electricity. Some portable sinks can also connect to any water source via a standard garden hose attachment. So, if you have a pump or a spigot anywhere in the vicinity, you’re set!
