5 Games to Play That Kids Will Remember From Childhood

If you watch commercials, you’re constantly bombarded with advertisements for new kids games that are supposedly bigger and better than the rest. With most being overpriced, lacking quality and uninventive, your kids will be done with these toy games quickly and forget about them.

Now, remember back in the ‘good ole days’ where you played games in the yard with your friends until the street light came on and mom called you home? No crappy toy construction or theatrics were needed for these childhood games. Just some creative imaginations and a couple of neighbor kids to play were required. Below are 5 of these classic games that kids will continue to play and remember when they think back on the ‘good ole days.’

1. Truth or Dare

Truth or Dare is a party game in which each person must choose between answering a question truthfully or completing a task. The question or task is not disclosed before the player decides which one they want to do. Beware--this is usually a game of ultimate embarrassment, but you can play with questions or activities that do not cause the player any awkwardness. This game was played many times during sleepovers over the years!

2. I Spy

I Spy is a guessing game where one player will choose an object within sight and provide clues to the other players for them to guess what the object is. Start your clues with "I spy with my little eye…". You can make your clues as easy or difficult as you want depending on player ages. This game is great for younger kids and easy entertainment. We play this game often when we are walking on the park trails.

3. Two Truths and a Lie

The 2 truths and a lie game is just how it sounds! Each person tells other players two truths about themselves and a lie. The other players must decide which of the three is the lie. I used to play this often at camps or school for an icebreaker game to get to know other kids!

4. Would You Rather

Would You Rather is a game of decisions. Each player is faced with two options that they must choose which one they would rather do. For example, would you rather be able to fly or be invisible? Get as creative and silly as you want to make the game more memorable.

5. Never Have I Ever

Never Have I Ever is an easy game to play for young or older kids. Each player holds up both their hands and displays all 10 fingers. Each player goes around the circle and states "Never have I ever (i.e. swam in the ocean). Any player who has done the task in question, puts down a finger. The last person with fingers still up, wins! Silly or spicey questions, you can learn a lot about your friends and family.

All of these classic games are easy to play, don’t require any pieces and can be done with any number of players. A little creativity and willingness from players will make playing these games special memories when you kids think back on their childhood--just like you did!
